Officials with Mt. Vernon Utilities have issued a boil advisory for all water customers west of West Elementary School. Officials say this includes the Park Ridge and country club subdivisions, and that they expect the order to be lifted late Friday afternoon.

 

An early morning fire broke out Tuesday in Posey County. Officials with Black Township Fire & Rescue say they were called to a house on Curtis Road. That’s in the far west side of the county, in an area south of Bethesda Church. Pictures show flames on one side and heavy smoke coming from all the windows. Officials say nobody was inside the house. They say Point Township and New Harmony fire department were also called out. A medic team was also on standby.

 

The Community Foundation Alliance announced the opening of the Gray Farms Presidents Scholarship. According to a press release, scholarships worth $1,000 will be awarded to two graduating high school seniors who attend a high school located in selected counties in Illinois, Indiana, or Kentucky, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 unweighted scale) and plan to attend an accredited college or university. Posey County is included in this. Applications for the Gray Farms Presidents Scholarship are now being accepted through the Community Foundation’s website. The press release states additional details regarding eligibility criteria and the scholarship application are also available. The application deadline is February 1st.

 

Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball lost at Heritage Hills last night, 61-47. The Wildcats drop to 4-3 on the season and won’t play again until December 29th against Mayfield, Kentucky in Henderson.

North Posey Boys Basketball earned a road win against Boonville, 55-49. The Vikings run their record to 5-1 and will play Wood Memorial on Friday at 1:30 in the Toyota Classic.

Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball fell at home against Central, 50-9. The Wildcats are now 2-11.

North Posey Girls Basketball lost a home game against South Knox, 63-38. The Vikings are slip to 3-8.

 

 

USI Men’s Basketball was able to snap a 3-game skid last night at home against St. Francis, 79-47. Jack Mielke had 18 points to pace USI and AJ Smith added 16 points and 9 rebounds. The Screaming Eagles are 3-9 on the year and will play at SIU on Friday.

The Indiana Hoosiers Men’s Basketball team survived a scare at home against Morehead State as IU pulled out a 69-68 win. IU is now 8-3 on the season and will play host to North Alabama tomorrow night.

 

Coming up this evening, the Evansville Purple Aces are at home against Tennessee Tech. Tipoff at Ford Center in downtown Evansville is set for 7:00 PM. The Aces are looking for a 3rd-straight win as they sit at 9-2 on the year.

The Indiana Pacers hope to end a 4-game losing streak tonight as they welcome the Charlotte Hornets at 6:00 PM. The Pacers have a record of 13-12.
