Indiana State Police and Mount Vernon Police responded to Huck's gas station on 4th Street last night.  The reference was in a disturbance between two males in the parking lot near the gas pumps.  Upon arrival, both men had left in their vehicles.  ISP Trooper Hadley left the property to search for the two vehicles and while patrolling he located the black Chevy Silverado and blue Dodge Charger in a large group of teens in the 300 block of West 7th Street.  The driver of the truck, Rayce Liggett-Kueber, 20 years old of Mt Vernon was observed to have a bottle of brandy in the center console and showed signs of impairment.  Rayce was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.  During the arrest he also resisted the officers and allegedly threatened.  Tropper Hadley received a minor injury during the arrest.  Kueber was transported to the Posey County Jail and is being held without bond.  Toxicology results are pending.

The Posey County Solid Waste District will be having their final tox-away day of 2023 tomorrow at the Mount Vernon Recycling center at the corner of Lower New Harmony Road and Brown Street. The hours will be from 2:00 PM until 6 o clock. Items being accepted include household cleaners, oil-based paints, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides, insecticides and other various items. For full details on items being accepted, call the Solid Waste District at 812-838-1613. The next Tox-away day will be in March.

A reminder from the town of Poseyville that the last day for leaf pickup will be on this Thursday, 7th. Anyone who has leafs that they would like picked up , can place them on the curb by the road, but please do not put them in the street. Again the final day for that is tomorrow.

Christmas on Main Street in Mt. Vernon is coming up this Friday evening. The night starts with the lighted parade at 7:00 PM. The other event for Friday includes the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the mayors house at 7:50.  Saturday’s events include the Kids Christmas Party from 12:00-4:00 PM with a cookies and milk station sponsored by McKims IGA, Visits with Santa, gifts for ages up to 10 years old and writing letters to Santa himself.  Another part of Christmas on Main Street is the Jeep Jamboree along the riverfront from 2:00-6:00 as well as food trucks along the riverfront from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. Remember while visiting the Christmas on Main Street event to support the local businesses in downtown Mount Vernon.

Coming up in Poseyville this Saturday is the Candy Cane Market taking place from 9AM to 2PM at the North Elementary Gymnasium at 63 West Fletchall Avenue. Admission for the market will be $3 for adults and kids entry is free. Enjoy over 45 vendors in the gymnasium plus hot cocoa, food trucks, reindeer raffle and face painting.

Next Saturday at the Poseyville community center will be the Poseyville Kiwanis Club, Breakfast with Santa event. This will be taking place from 8AM to 11 at 60 North Church Street. Pre-sale prices are $7.00 for kids 4 to 9 years old and $10 for ages 10 and up. In person prices will be two dollars higher the day of the event. In high school sports last night, the P.A.C. Satellite meets began for both Mount Vernon and North Posey Wrestling teams. Both schools took on each other in round one with Mount Vernon coming out the winner with a score of 43 – 27. In Round two, North Posey took down Gibson Southern 39 – 37. And in round two, the Wildcats took down Gibson Southern 40 – 39. The tournament will continue on Friday at Princeton.

Mount Vernon girls basketball teams hosted Mater Dei at home. Final score was Mount Vernon 16 and Mater Dei 60. The Lady Wildcats fall to 1-7 on the season. Their next game will be on Saturday at Boonville.

The North Posey Vikings girls basketball team hosted Southridge at home last night. The Lady Vikings fell in that game. The final score 36-23 in favor of Southridge. The Vikings fall to 3-3 on their season. North Posey girls next match up will be on Monday at home taking on the Reitz Panthers at 6:00.

The North Posey Boys opened their season on the road at Evansville Day School. The Eagles started a little bit quicker than the Vikings, but not for long, then were outscored in the remained of the first quarter and then North Posey kept the momentum in their favor through the rest of the game. Final score was North Posey 70, Day School 40. The Vikings were led in scoring by Austin Schmitt with 17 points. The Vikings start their season at 1-0 and will play Heritage Hills on Friday night at 7:00 on the road.

Moving to college sports, The University of Evansville made a long trip to Brigham Young University in Utah. The Aces held their own for the a short period in the first half against the number 14 ranked BYU Cougars. The Aces were led in scoring by Yacine Toumi with 13 points and rebounds with 7. Final score BYU 96 – UE 55. The Aces fall to 7 – 2 on the season with their next game being over a week away on December 16th.

The Indiana Hoosiers walked away with a victory on the road over the Michigan Wolverines. The Hoosiers were down at half time by two points and then won the second half and game with a final of 78-75 with crucial free throws at the end of the game and a blocked inbound pass with seconds left in the game. The Hoosier are on the road again on Saturday taking on Auburn.

And the USI Screaming Eagles will take on Purdue Fort Wayne tonight at 6 at home. The Eagles are 2-7 on their season.
