Last night, postseason play got underway for local high school boys basketball teams with the first round of sectionals. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats are moving on as they beat Gibson Southern, 43-36. Nicot Burnett scored 18 points and Jackson Clowers added 14 points. The Wildcats are now 14-11 and will play again on Friday against Bosse at 7:00 PM in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville High School.

 

The North Posey Vikings boys basketball team is also moving on in the Class 2A Sectional 48. They took care of South Spencer, 60-49. North Posey is 18-5 and will play again on Friday against Perry Central at 7:00 PM at Huntingburg Memorial Gym.

 

The North Posey Performing Arts posted on Facebook that tickets for North Posey High School’s production of “Footloose” will go on sale this Friday at noon. Adult tickets are 10 dollars and student tickets are 5 dollars. If you have any questions, please contact Victoria Schaefer at vschaefer@northposey.k12.in.us. The shows are March 7th, 8th, and 9th at 7:00 PM at the North Posey High School Auditorium.

 

Todd Slagle has been named superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of North Posey County. Slagle was named during a special meeting of the North Posey school board last week. He replaces interim superintendent Steven Kavanaugh. Before being named to the North Posey post, Slagle had worked for nearly 29 years for Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp., including 15 years as principal of Cedar Hall Community School. Slagle then spent nearly nine years as EVSC's chief administrative officer. In September, then-North Posey Superintendent Michael Galvin announced he would retire. Galvin had accepted a new position as senior director of operations for Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana. 

 

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari will feature an even bigger drone show in 2024. Back by popular demand, “Holidays in the Sky Drone & Fireworks Spectacular” will feature 500 drones, which is 100 more drones than last year. According to a release, guests will be able to vote and pick the final animation of the show. Officials say Holidays in the Sky has become a must-see experience for guests, and this year’s completely redesigned show promises to be even more spectacular. The show will run nightly from June 22nd through August 4th. The event will also feature a DJ dance party, drone show, and a fireworks grand finale. The show is included in park admission, just like soft drinks, parking, and sunscreen. Holiday World officials say custom Holidog and Kitty Claws bubble wands that interact with the drone show will be available for sale. Holiday World Season Passholders will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a sneak peek of Holidays in the Sky on Friday, June 21st. Season Passes are on sale through tomorrow.

 

In Men’s College Basketball last night, the Indiana Hoosiers picked up a much-needed win at home against Wisconsin, 74-70. Kel’el Ware led the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds. The Hoosiers snap a 4-game skid to improve to 15-13 overall and 7-10 in the Big 10. IU will be at Maryland on Sunday.

#16 Kentucky goes on the road and clips Mississippi State, 91-89. Reed Sheppard poured in 32 points, including the game-winner. The Cats pick up win number 20 as they are 20-8 and 10-5 in the SEC. UK is home on Saturday against Arkansas.

 

Coming up tonight in local sports…the Evansville Purple Aces Men’s Basketball team plays their final home game of the season against Indiana State at 7:00 PM. The Aces are looking to snap a 5-game losing streak as they are 15-14 overall and 6-12 in the MVC.

Also tonight in Men’s College Basketball…Louisville travels to Duke at 6:00 PM and #13 Illinois welcomes Minnesota at 8:00 PM.

 

From the NBA this evening…the Indiana Pacers wrap up a 4-game home-stand against the New Orleans Pelicans at 6:30 PM. The Pacers are 33-26 on the year.
