Posey County 911 Dispatch posted on Facebook that today and tomorrow Sabic will be conducting test burns. If you see a large amount of smoke coming from that area of town, don’t be alarmed. Sabic will be letting dispatch know when they start and complete each burn today and tomorrow. They will also be conducting a full week of fire training the week of February 12th through February 16th.

 

The Marion VA Health Care System is throwing a Veteran Resource Fair at VFW Post 1114 in Evansville today. It’s your chance to get clued up on all the resources you have access to. You will be able to chat with the big bosses from the Executive Leadership Team, sign up for VA Health Benefits, and file claims for VA Disability with help from the crew at Indianapolis Regional Office of Veterans Benefits Administration and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Doors open at 5:30 PM tonight.

 

The North Posey Business Professionals of America posted on Facebook that they are having a Hacienda Give Back night tomorrow evening. Proceeds will go to help members pay for their state convention. The North Posey Business Professionals of America have posted a picture on their Facebook Page that you are supposed to share when you eat at Hacienda tomorrow night. They are also selling gift cards in any denomination. Contact a member if you would like to help out.

 

The town of Cynthiana is in need of a part-time Town Marshall. Prior law enforcement experience is required. Interested applicants may apply in person at the Cynthiana Town Hall, or resumes may be mailed to PO Box 95, Cynthiana, IN 47612. All applications/resumes must be received no later than noon on March 5th, 2024.

 

If you’d like to see what a college class is like, Ivy Tech Community College is hosting a free community event on February 17th from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. They will be hosting a free pancake breakfast, as well as a number of classes for people to check out. Subjects include software programming, welding, biology and early childhood education. The event is free, but you’ll have to RSVP online.

 

Last night in local high school boys’ basketball action…the Mt. Vernon Wildcats fell at home to Memorial, 52-42. The Wildcats are now 10-9 and will head to Boonville on Friday.

North Posey Boys Basketball earned a 62-46 victory at home over Mt. Carmel. Jackson Graff had 22 points to pace North Posey. Kylan Wathen added 18 points and Austin Schmitt had 13 points. The win runs the Vikings record to 14-3. North Posey is home against Southridge on Friday.

 

In Men’s College Basketball from last night…the Indiana Hoosiers picked up a nice win at Ohio State, 76-73. The Hoosiers trailed by 13 at halftime, but outscored the Buckeyes, 47-31 in the second half to win by three. Malik Reneau led the Hoosiers with 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Trey Galloway poured in 25 points. IU improves to 14-9 and 6-6 in the Big 10. They will be at Purdue on Saturday.

#17 Kentucky whipped Vanderbilt on the road, 109-77. Antonio Reeves paced the Cats with 24 points. UK is now 16-6 overall and 6-4 in the SEC.

 

From the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers hung on at home for a 132-129 win against the Houston Rockets. Pascal Siakam was the leading scorer for Indiana with 29 points. The Pacers are now 29-23 on the year. They play host to the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night.

 

Coming up tonight in local college action…the Evansville Purple Aces Men’s Basketball team returns to Ford Center to face the Bradley Braves at 7:00 PM. The Aces are looking for their 4th-straight win. UE is 14-9 overall and 5-7 in the MVC.
