The Posey County Prosecutor's Office and Posey County Circuit Court are giving individuals with outstanding child support warrants an opportunity to resolve their case without being taken into custody. A Child Support Warrant Compliance Day will be held tomorrow, with court sessions scheduled for 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Eligible individuals can voluntarily appear before a judge to have their warrant addressed and receive a new court date or additional instructions. Prosecutor Thomas Clowers says the event is designed to encourage compliance while reducing the need for an arrest. Participants should bring a valid photo ID. Officials also stress that the event does not forgive unpaid child support or clear any criminal warrants unrelated to child support.
It's been nearly three months since employees at Oakland City University last received a paycheck. University President Dr. Ron Dempsey now says the payroll originally scheduled for May 8th will be paid this Friday. However, there's still no timeline for when the next three missed paychecks will be issued to more than 100 former employees. Earlier this month, Dempsey said the money was available for the first payroll, but the university was waiting for its payroll account with ADP to be set up. He now says that process is still underway, so the university will issue printed checks instead. Employees have been emailed with instructions on how to either pick up their checks or have them mailed. Dempsey says once funding is available for the remaining missed payrolls, the ADP account should be ready to process those payments. Oakland City University has suspended its undergraduate programs, while graduate summer classes continue.
Indiana's Medicare and Medicaid programs will temporarily stop accepting new providers for dozens of services beginning next month. State officials say the six-month moratorium is aimed at reducing the risk of waste, fraud and abuse within the programs. Among the services affected are Adult Family Care, home-delivered meals and respite care. The moratorium takes effect this Saturday, August 1st and will remain in place for six months. The move comes as Governor Mike Braun's administration works to rein in rising taxpayer spending on Indiana's state-run health care programs.
Students at 72 schools across Indiana will get the chance to take learning beyond the classroom this school year, thanks to a state grant program aimed at getting kids outdoors. The Discover the Outdoors Field Trip Grant Program is providing schools with grants of up to $500 to help cover transportation, program fees, and classroom supplies for educational visits to Indiana State Parks. The goal is to give students hands-on learning experiences while introducing them to Indiana's natural resources. Four Tri-State schools are among this year's grant recipients: West Elementary, Veale Elementary, St. Wendel Catholic School, and Evansville Day School. State officials say the program helps remove financial barriers, making it possible for more students to connect classroom lessons with real-world experiences in the outdoors.
In Major League Baseball on Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals lost at home to the Chicago Cubs, 10-2. Chicago had 17 hits in the game. Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner all drove in a pair of runs in the win. The Cubs are 61-46 and the Cardinals are 53-54 overall. St. Louis has lost 3-straight games and are 3-9 since the All-Star Break. Game 3 of the 4-game series at Busch Stadium is tonight at 6:45 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds split their doubleheader at home yesterday vs the Cleveland Guardians. The Reds lost the first game, 6-5 and then won the second game, 2-0. Cincinnati is 50-56 on the season. They conclude their 3-game set vs the Guardians at home tonight at 6:10 PM.
The Chicago White Sox fell at home vs the New York Yankees, 3-2. The Yankees have won the first two games of the series. The White Sox are 55-51 on the year. Game 3 of the 4-game set is this evening at 6:40 PM.
