The Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana have announced Ryan Scott as their new Executive Director. Board President, Sherri Bell, says she believes Scott’s passion will be a great asset to the organization and community. Scott is originally from Chrisney, and currently lives in Henderson, Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University and two master’s degrees from The University of the Cumberland’s. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana is a one-to-one mentoring program dedicated to improving the lives of children in our community. Established in 1969, we currently serve children in Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey, Spencer, and Gibson Counties in Southwest Indiana, and Henderson County in Kentucky.

 

Plans are in the works for a new ride at Holiday World. According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, plans were submitted at the end of April for an amusement park ride called, “Gravy Boat”. There is speculation from roller coaster enthusiasts that it will be put where the old Pilgrim’s Plunge was, in the Thanksgiving section. Holiday World officials say they are not ready to share the details yet. Holiday World officials did say last week they are looking to replace the Raging Rapids, which closed Saturday after 33 years.

 

The 3rd annual Poseyville Kiwanis Scholarship Ride is this Saturday, June 24th. Start and finish of the ride will be at the Poseyville Community Center, located at 60 N Church Street in Poseyville. Signups start at 9:30 AM and the first rider out will be at 10:30 AM. The prize will be awarded at 4:00 PM. Cost is 20 dollars per-rider.

 

St. Francis Church in Poseyville is having a Chops and Cheers event this Saturday, June 24th. Mass begins at 4:30 PM with the meal and music to follow at 5:00 PM. You must be at least 21 years of age to attend. Food, live music, and the beer garden is 20 dollars per-person. The planned menu includes pork chops, cheesy potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, roll, homemade dessert, and drink. Carry-out is available. If you want the beer garden only, the cost is 5 dollars per-person. The live music will be provided by JB and The Tried-and-True Band.

 

The annual Hadi Shrinersfest will get underway in downtown Evansville this weekend. The event will take place along Riverside Drive on Friday and Saturday. Live music, food, an LST-325 re-enactment, a beer garden, and more are all on the schedule. Organizers encourage you to bring things like folding chairs and blankets. The event will also include the drawing for the Hadi Shrine Half Pot on Saturday, which had a total pot of over $140,000 as of Tuesday afternoon. The festival will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, with road closures starting on Riverside Drive sometime on Thursday.

 

Sports

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (31-43) won their 4th-straight game at the Washington Nationals, 9-3. Dylan Carlson had a 2-home run game. The Redbirds go for a 3-game sweep today at 3:05 PM.   

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (35-38) blanked the Pirates in Pittsburgh, 4-0.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (39-35) won their 10th-straight game last night at home against the Rockies, 8-6.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (32-43) edged the Texas Rangers at home, 7-6.
