Last night was the first Poseyville Farmers Market of the summer, kicking things off here in Posey County. Just a reminder that the Mount Vernon Market Nights is also returning to the Mount Vernon Riverfront beginning next Monday, June 8. The weekly summer event will take place each Monday evening from 5 until 8 throughout June and July and will feature vendors, food trucks, and live music. Admission is free. Organizers are currently looking for vendors interested in participating in this year’s events.
The Mount Vernon Conservation Club will host its annual Kids Fishing Day this Saturday, June 6th, at the club grounds located at 700 Springfield Road in Mount Vernon. The event is open to the public for children ages 16 and under. Registration begins at 8:00 Saturday morning with fishing scheduled from 9:00 until 11:00. A meal and prize giveaway will follow the fishing event. Organizers say the program has been held each year for more than 25 years. Club members help support the event through monthly contributions that fund prizes and refreshments for articipating children and their families. Event organizers also say they work each year to provide age-appropriate prizes for the kids taking part in the event.
The annual New Harmony Firefly Festival will take place June 26th and 27th in historic New Harmony, bringing two evenings of family-friendly activities and glowing firefly displays to the community. The festival celebrates Indiana’s state insect. Organizers say the event combines nature, local history, and community activities for visitors of all ages. Festival activities will include guided evening firefly viewing tours along wooded trails and the Wabash River, live music and glow dance parties, food and local vendors, and historical presentations about Thomas Say and the firefly’s connection to Indiana history. A Firefly Festival Run and Walk is also planned for Saturday morning, featuring scenic routes through the historic district and riverfront areas.
The City of Mount Vernon has announced plans for its annual Fireworks on the Ohio celebration for the Independence Day holiday weekend. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, July 5th at the Mount Vernon riverfront. Fireworks are set to begin at 9:00 PM. Food booths will open beginning at 5:00 Sunday evening, and live entertainment will be provided by Travis Wolfe starting at 7:00. City officials are inviting the public to attend the celebration as the community marks Independence Day along with America’s 250th anniversary.
SPORTS:
Coming up tomorrow the Mount Vernon and North Posey boys golf teams will begin their sectional play at 7AM in the Mater Dei hosted Sectional 23. Schools participating include Mount Vernon, North Posey, Boonville, Castle, Bosse, Central, Evansville Christian, Reitz, Harrison, Mater Dei, North and Memorial.
And this weekend is the IHSAA Track And Field State Finals. Mount Vernon has two ladies running at the finals. They include Mount Vernon's Stella Hall. She will be running the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles. Also running is North Posey's Rowen Englebright. She will be competing in the thirty-two hundred race in Indianapolis.
