The Posey County Sheriffs Department is warning residents of a scam. It has been reported that people have been receiving calls with someone identifying themselves as a deputy with the Posey County Sheriffs office. The caller is telling the recipients that they have failed to appear for jury duty. The scammer then asks the recipients to go to a kiosk and get money to pay for their warrant. Again the sheriffs office notes that this is a scam and not to follow the instructions.

Family Matters of Posey County says they will be having another Mobile Food Distribution this Thursday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The distribution location is East of the Posey County Co-Op building. Drivers should enter through the alley between 5th and 6th streets. There is a limit of 2 households per car. This event is sponsored by the Tri-State Food Bank and the Indiana Department of Agriculture.

There will also be a food pantry taking place on Thursday in New Harmony at the Holy Angels Community Center. This will take place from 3-6PM being brought to you by the New Harmony Ministerial Association.

The deadline to file your taxes is less than a month away and this is another reminder that Posey County Council on Aging is offering free tax filing services each Tuesday through April 9th starting at 10:00 AM. These free tax services are for senior citizens in Posey County. The volunteers preparing the returns are trained and certified by the IRS. Businesses and farms are not eligible for this service. Appointments are required. You can call the office at 812-838-4656.

Coming up on April 6th, the second annual club crawl benefit for Alex Burkhart will be taking place. The event will include cornhole, bake sale, yard games, silent auction and finger foods. Locations for the crawl will be from noon to 2 at the Moose Lodge, 2-4 at the Eagles, 4-6 at the Elks, 6-8 at the American Legion and 8 til closing at the Moose.

Just a reminder that with summer time approaching, The Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for seasonal workers. Applications are being accepted for maintenance workers as well as pool workers. You can find the applications on their Facebook page, or stop by the office at Hedges Central Door 8.

Coming up this Saturday is the Posey County Council on Aging Chili and Soup Cook-off. Sampling will start at noon at 611 West 8th Street. Winners will be announced at 2:30
