The Posey County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of a scam being sent by text message. Officials say that scam is of someone pretending to be from the sheriff’s office. The scammer is sending text messages that look like someone else trying to get in contact with the receiver. The message asks for you to respond with “ACCEPT” to receive more messages. The sheriff’s office says not to do it, it is fake and not from them.

 

The Vanderburgh County Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for Burdette Park’s new pickleball and tennis courts on Thursday. According to a press release, the project is funded through the American Rescue Plan and replaced the four tennis courts with six pickleball courts and two tennis courts. The initiative also featured the replacement of the perimeter fence, complete removal and replacement of the asphalt playing surface with new markings, installation of new LED lights and the implementation of an upgraded water drainage system to prevent the formation of cracks. Because of the specified air temperature needed for application, the final step of applying the topcoat will be completed in the spring. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Thursday at 9:30 AM.

 

Froggy’s Restaurant and Sports Bar says they will be donating 10% of their sales to local fire departments on Thursdays this month. The next one is tomorrow for the Cynthiana Fire Department, and then Thursday November 30th will be for the Wadesville Fire Department. Froggy’s encourages the community to come out on these two dates and help support the local volunteer firefighters.

 

The North Posey Vikings Football team will host the Southmont Mounties for the Class 2A South Semi-State on Saturday at 4:00 PM at Joe Gengelbach Field. Pre-Sale Tickets became available Monday. Tickets are $12.00 each (Season Passes cannot be used at IHSAA Tournament Events). Tickets may also be purchased at the gate with cash on Saturday. Gates will open at 2:00 PM CST. North Posey is 12-1 and Southmont is 8-5. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast on Saturday on 98.9 FM WPIW, 106.7 FM WMVI, and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Sports from last night…in local high school action Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball got beat at home by Reitz, 85-16. The Lady Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the year.

In local college action, USI Men’s Basketball picked up their first win of the year beating Division Two Tiffin University at home, 68-65. The Screaming Eagles improve to 1-3 on the season. Jeremiah Hernandez paced USI with 24 points and AJ Smith earned a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

From the NBA, the Indiana Pacers picked up an impressive win in Philadelphia over the 76ers, 132-126. Tyrese Haliburton had 33 points and 15 assists for the Pacers. OB Toppin also poured in 27 points. Indiana improves to 7-4 on the year and they are 2-0 during the NBA’s In-Season Tournament Pool Play.

 

Checking on sports tonight, the Evansville Purple Aces Men’s Basketball team travels to Southeast Missouri State at 6:30 PM. The Aces are looking to improve to 3-0.

Evansville Women’s Basketball is home against Eastern Kentucky University at 6:00 PM. The Lady Aces are searching for their first win of the season as they are 0-2.
