NEWS: 

THE MSD OF MT. VERNON AND MSD OF NORTH POSEY WILL BE OUT OF SESSION TODAY AS WELL AS MONDAY APRIL 10TH. ALL SCHOOLS AND OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED DURING THIS TIME. SCHOOL WILL RESUME ON TUESDAY, APRIL 11TH.

 

ON MARCH 29TH, POSEY COUNTY CENTRAL DISPATCH WAS ADVISED OF AN ACTIVE FIRE AT THE LANDING (THE SENIOR LIVING FACILITY LOCATED AT 111 EAST WATER STREET, MOUNT VERNON.

A RESIDENT HAD CALLED AND ADVISED THERE WAS A FIRE IN HER 2ND FLOOR APARTMENT. THE RESIDENT ADVISED SHE WAS UNABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT AND WAS ALSO UNABLE TO GET OUT OF HER APARTMENT. OFFICER ANTHONY STALLINGS AND OFFICER DARRIN LEMBERG, RESPONDED TO THE SCENE PRIOR TO BEING DISPATCHED TO ASSIST. WITHOUT REGARD TO HIS OWN SAFETY, OFFICER STALLINGS IMMEDIATELY RETRIEVED HIS FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND RAN TO THE 2ND FLOOR APARTMENT. OFFICER STALLINGS SECURED THE APARTMENT RESIDENT INTO A CHAIR AND WAS ABLE TO GET HER OUTSIDE TO THE WAITING MEDICS WHERE SHE RECEIVED MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR HER BURNS. OFFICER STALLINGS AND OFFICER LEMBERG RE-ENTERED THE BUILDING AND CONTINUED TO HELP EVACUATE THE APARTMENT BUILDING TO GET ALL RESIDENTS OUT.

IN APPRECIATION, ON WEDNESDAY POLICE CHIEF ANDY RUSH PRESENTED OFFICER ANTHONY STALLINGS AND OFFICER DARRIN LEMBERG WITH THE MOUNT VERNON POLICE DEPARTMENT “LIFESAVING MEDAL” FOR THEIR HEROIC ACTIONS.

 

THE POSEY COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE CARRAN FAMILY SCHOLORSHIP. MULTIPLE SCHOLORSHIPS MAY BE AWARDED TO MILITARY VERTERANS RESIDING IN SEVERAL INDIANA COUNTIES INCLUDING POSEY. PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO A POSEY COUNTY RESIDENT ENROLLING IN OR ENROLLED IN ANY ACCREDITED VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM. THE APPLICANT WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE VERIFICATION OF MILITARY ENROLLMENT ALONG WITH PROOF OF ACCEPTANCE IN AN ACCREDITED PROGRAM. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 16TH AT NOON. THIS WEEKEND IS EASTER WEEKEND AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNTS TAKING PLACE. THE MOUNT VERNON COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT WILL BE ON SATURDAY AT 1:00 PM AT BRITTLEBANK PARK. THE HUNT IS OPEN FOR KIDS UP TO 12 YEARS OLD AND BEING BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE MOUNT VERNON KIWANIS CLUB, THE MOUNT VERNON LIONS CLUB, THE MOUNT VERNON SENION HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB AND THE POSEY SOLAR PROJECT. THE POSEYVILLE KIWANIS CLUB EASTER EGG HUNT WILL BE SATURDAY AT 9:00 AM AT THE POSEYVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER. THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO KIDS UP TO 10 YEARS OLD AND THE WANT TO REMIND YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN BASKET. HARMONY STATE PARK IS ALSO HOSTING AN EASTER EGG HUNT SATURDAY IN THE BIG OAK AREA BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE FRIENDS OF HARMONY STATE PARK. THIS ONE WILL START AT 10 AM FOR KIDS UP TO 10 YEARS OLD AND THE REGULAR GATE FEES TO APPLY TO GET INTO THE PARK.

 

THE WADESVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT IS CURRENTLY COLLECTING FUNDS FOR THEIR ANNUAL 2023 FUND DRIVE. IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT IN THE WADESVILLE AREA, CHECK YOUR MAIL FOR THE DONATION SHEET.
