Mt. Vernon High School’s Key Club has been raising money for Riley Hospital for Children over the last 3 months. Currently, they have $1,529 out of their $2,000 goal raised so far. Tonight, they are hosting an event from 5:00-6:00 PM in the Mount Vernon High School Auxiliary Gym where they will try to reach their goal. There will be games, food, and fun in celebration of the brave kids at Riley's. A donation is optional, and all are invited to attend.

 

North Posey Football posted on Facebook that next Wednesday, February 15th there will be an informational meeting held in the high school auditorium at 6:00 PM for next year. All 8th-11th graders who are interested in playing next season and their parents/family are invited. Discussion topics will include off-season program and expectations, summer schedule, and the upcoming fundraiser auction.

 

Coming up this Saturday at the Posey County 4H Center, it’s the Posey County Country Music Throwdown. The event this Saturday is for those 21 years and over. Doors will open at 6:00 PM. Come help make the Posey County Fair even better, as this event is a fundraiser to support Sweethearts of the fair. It will be a night of country music and seeing old friends. Annabel Whitledge kicks off the night at 6:30 PM. Food will be provided by an onsite Food Truck and cash bar provided by St. Phillips Inn. Pre-sale tickets are 15 dollars and 20 dollars on the day of the event, if any are still left. They expect the event to be a sell-out. Once again, this is for the Posey County Music Throwdown on Saturday at the Posey County 4H Center.

 

College Baseball season is quickly approaching, and the preseason polls have been released for the Ohio Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Conference. USI Baseball is picked to finish 8th in their first season competing in the OVC. Southeast Missouri State was picked to win the conference. The Screaming Eagles a season ago went 21-28 and finished in 5th in the GLVC during their final season of Division Two. USI’s senior catcher, Lucas McNew was selected as a member of the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team. The Screaming Eagles begin the 2023 season with a neutral site four-game series against Western Illinois next Friday, February 17th in Millington, Tennessee.

 

Evansville Baseball will also begin their regular season next Friday, February 17th at Troy University. Evansville was picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley Conference after finishing the 2022 regular season in second place. SIU was selected as the favorite to repeat as champions, while Missouri State was picked second. Four Aces were selected to the 13-member preseason all-MVC team, the most of any team in The Valley. Selected to the preseason team was junior pitcher Nick Smith, senior outfielder Mark Shallenberger, senior third baseman Brent Widder, and junior shortstop Simon Scherry.

 

Sports: 

- USI Women's Basketball (10-14, 4-9) lost at Tennessee Tech, 79-59. Hannah Haithcock had 14 points. 

- USI Men's Basketball (13-13, 6-7) fell at Tennessee Tech, 84-69. Isaiah Swope poured in 15 points. Jacob Polakovich had 14 points and 14 rebounds. The Screaming Eagles have dropped 4-straight games. 

- From other Men's College Basketball last night...#1 Purdue (23-2) takes care of Iowa at home, 87-73. WKU (14-11) earns a home win over Middle Tennessee, 93-89.
