The Posey County Sheriff's Office in Mt. Vernon says it's currently taking applications for new Jail Officers. PCSO says interested applicants can visit the office Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. to apply. The sheriff's office says interested individuals can also apply by phone within the Posey County Sheriff's Office app by visiting the "Join Our Team" tab and selecting "Corrections Officer." The position is full-time, and that it offers benefits with starting pay a $38,010 per year ($17.40 per hour).

 

Bull Island Revisited is coming to the American Legion in Mt. Vernon tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. At 10:00 AM there will be guest speakers and stories. Then at 11:00 AM there will be acoustic guitar music.

 

In case you missed it from yesterday, The University of Southern Indiana invites in-state students to submit their undergraduate admission applications for free through the month of September. University officials say they are excited for USI to be part of a statewide effort encouraging Indiana students to ignite their passions and learn about the opportunities available to them through higher education. These waived fees come as a part of the “College GO!” campaign, sponsored by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

 

Week 3 of the High School Football season is this evening. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats are home for a second-straight Friday night as they welcome the Princeton Tigers for a 7:00 PM kickoff. Mt. Vernon is 1-1 on the season. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the action on the radio on 106.7 FM WMVI with the pregame show at 6:45 PM.

The North Posey Vikings Football team hits the road for a big week 3 PAC showdown at the Southridge Raiders. Both teams are 2-0 on the year. North Posey is ranked 11th in this week’s AP high school football rankings. You can hear the North Posey at Southridge football game with Jordan Fisher on the call tonight on 98.9 FM WPIW at 6:30 PM. The pregame show gets underway at 6:15 PM. Both the Mt. Vernon and North Posey games can be heard online as well at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Local Sports From Last Night:

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost in 4-sets at home against Reitz (25-13, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25). Arlissa Sharber and Mallory Nurrenbern each had 13 kills. On the defensive side, Brooke Sledd tallied 23 digs. Wildcats dip to 7-3.

- Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis lost, 4-1 at Gibson Southern. 

- North Posey Volleyball won in straight-sets at Heritage Hills.

- North Posey Boys Soccer fell at Wood Memorial, 3-1. Vikings are still winless at 0-6 on the season. 

- UE Women's Soccer tied SIU Edwardsville on the road, 0-0. Purple Aces are now 1-1-2 on the year. 

- USI Women's Soccer tied the University of North Alabama on the road, 0-0. Screaming Eagles are now 2-1-2.

- USI Men's Soccer lost at home to University of Wisconsin Green Bay, 3-1. They drop to 0-3. 

- Week 1 College Football: Purdue lost 35-31 vs Penn State --- Ball State got thumped at Tennessee 59-10 --- Indiana State beat North Alabama 17-14 in OT --- Tonight Indiana kicks off their season at home vs Illinois at 7:00 PM.

- Evansville Otters got swept at the Washington Wild Things, 9-1. Otters fall to 50-42 and have just 3 games left in the regular season. Their cushion for a playoff spot is 1.5 games. Evansville wraps up the regular season at the Florence Freedom this weekend.
