Friday an arrest warrant was issued for Posey County Jail Officer, Daniel Long. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police. Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham requested the Indiana State Police investigate to provide an outside agency observaiton and to provide the most transparent approach. It is alleged that Long battered an inmate, 31-year-old James Thole, on July 9th of this year. While the investigation was pending, Jail Officer Long was assigned to the jail control room, where he had no physical contact with inmates. Long was apprehended Friday at about 3:55 PM without incident by the Indiana State Police. He was then transported to the Posey County Jail where he was booked on the charges of Official Misconduct (Level 6 Felony) and Battery (Class B Misdemeanor). Long's bond was set at $1,500 cash. Following the arrest on Friday, Long was informed by Sheriff Office staff that his employment was terminated. 

 

Local restaurant Maryscotts Kitchen, located at 518 Main Street in New Harmony, is planning to open a second location in Posey County. According to Maryscotts Kitchen, they plan to open the second restaurant named "The Zone" by Maryscotts in Mt. Vernon. The new restaurant will be located in the Southwind Plaza shopping center between Dollar General and Ace Hardware. They will be a family friendly sports themed restaurant, with a fresh scratch kitchen and a full bar. Additional details will be released at a later date on the new restaurant.

Local Sports Over the Weekend: 

- Mt. Vernon Football lost their opener on Friday at Heritage Hills, 25-9. Wildcats are home this Friday vs South Spencer at 7:00 PM. 

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball fell in straight sets to Heritage Hills on Saturday (25-16, 25-22, 25-13). They are now 2-2 on the season. 

- Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer lost a tough match against Forest Park on Saturday, 2-1. Maty Burnett scored the lone goal and Abby Reis had 18 saves. They are now 1-2 on the year. 

- Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis finished 2nd at the Wood Memorial Invite on Saturday. South Knox (20 Points) won the invite, MV (14 Points) was 2nd, Wood Memorial (11 Points) came in 3rd, and Boonville (5 Points) was last. 

- Mt. Vernon Boys Cross Country placed 11th out of 16 teams at the Boonville Invite on Saturday, and the Girls team finshed 11th out of 13 teams. 

- North Posey Football won their opener on Friday at South Spencer, 61-14. Vikings are home vs Princeton this Friday at 7:00 PM.

- North Posey Volleyball dropped a match in straight sets on Saturday against Barr Reeve (25-18, 26-24, 25-18). They are now 2-2 on the year. 

- North Posey Boys Soccer lost their regular season opener at Evansville Christian on Saturday, 2-1.

- North Posey Girls Soccer dropped their regular season opener at Evansville Christian on Saturday, 7-0. 

- University of Evansville Women's Soccer tied Austin Peay at home on Sunday, 1-1. Purple Aces are 0-1-1 on the year. 

- University of Evansville Men's Soccer finished off exhibition play with a 4-0 thumping of Hanover at home on Sunday. 

- USI Volleyball lost a tough exhibition match in 5-sets at home against IUPUI on Saturday. 

- USI Women's Soccer earned their first win of the year on Saturday as they beat Winona State on the road, 1-0. They are 1-1 on the season.

- Evansville Otters lost on Sunday at the Washington Wild Things, 7-3. The Otters still took 2-of-3 in the series. Their record is now 45-38 and they have a 1 game lead for a playoff spot over Joliet. With just 2 weeks left in the season, Evansville returns home tomorrow night to play Joliet at 6:35 PM.
