News:

Two people are in the hospital after a shooting that happened on Friday night in Mt. Vernon. The Indiana State Police says officers were called to a shooting at a home on SR 62 near North Sauerkraut Lane in west Mt. Vernon around 9:00 Friday night. When officers arrived, they found 58-year-old Herbert Wade on the living room floor with a gunshot wound. They also found his wife, 48-year-old Melissa Wade, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. Detectives say the married couple was involved in an argument when Melissa allegedly shot Herbert in the chest with a handgun. Detectives also believe Melissa accidentally shot herself in the leg. Both were taken to the hospital in Evansville. Police say that Herbert's injuries were considered life-threatening, but that Melissa's were not. According to ISP, a minor was in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were uninjured. No other details are available right now, but police say the investigation is active.

Habitat for Humanity of Evansville is crossing the county line once again. They had a groundbreaking of a new build in Posey County on Friday. Although 14 homes have been built by the organization in Mount Vernon, this latest project will be the first in northern Posey County. The latest build is taking place at 80 East Oak Street. For a family to be eligible for the program, they must have an income of at or below 80% of the median, with most contributing 300 hours of volunteer work with the organization. Each completed home provides new 0% APR mortgages to families. This will be the first home built in Poseyville, but funds to complete two additional Habitat homes has already been raised.
