News:

Evansville Police arrested a man who they say got his car stuck on railroad tracks while driving drunk. It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Avenue and Read Street. Police say 71-year-old James Galloway admitted to having five liquor drinks at a bar. They say he failed field sobriety tests and had a BAC of .14. Court records show Galloway was released from prison in 2021. He was sentenced in 2013 to 24 years for home improvement fraud.

Evansville Police say they were called to a crash before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. It happened at Stockwell Road and Theater Drive. Police say they found a crashed car, but the driver was gone. They say a witness told them they found the driver stumbling in his yard, and an orange mustang came and picked him up. Officers say the car’s plate returned to 32-year-old Nicholas Joest. They say the mustang was pulled over in the area, and Joest was the passenger. Police say he struggled to stand, and his speech was slurred. They also say he had several fresh injuries that were consistent with a crash. Officers say Joest told them he was sorry for crashing. They say due to his level of intoxication they didn’t do field sobriety. Police say he couldn’t follow commands for a portable breath test, but later completed one at the jail. They say his blood alcohol was .246. Joest is charged with OMVWI and Leaving the Scene of an accident.

The trial has been canceled for a man who had been facing 10 counts in Vanderburgh County, including rape and child molesting. Court records show Johnathan Long reached a plea deal late last week. They don’t yet show details of the agreement, but they show “factual basis” was found with count 10, which was child molesting. Long was arrested in 2018, after authorities say he had previously been indicted on similar charges in Henderson. Records show the accused crimes happened in 2003, 2004, and 2009. Sentencing is set for February 17th.

More catalytic converter thefts are showing up in the Evansville Police reports. Police say one was reported Saturday afternoon at a business in the 1300 block of N. First Avenue. The report shows it could have happened any time after last Monday. Another catalytic converter theft happened around 3 a.m. Saturday morning in the 4400 block of Jackson Ave. There’s no word on if the two cases are connected, or if they are connected to other catalytic converter thefts that have been happening in the area.
