This week is the last week that the Posey County Auditor’s Office will be accepting resumes for the position of part-time deputy Auditor. This position will work Monday through Friday approximately 30 hours a week. Duties will include basic clerical work, including greeting customers, answering phones, and assisting other deputies. They are looking for a candidate that is detail orientated and can work well with others. Please submit all resumes via mail or in person to The Posey County Auditor’s Office by next Friday March 17th. The office is located at 126 E Third Street Room 220 in Mt. Vernon.

 

Mt. Vernon High School says there will be a parent and athlete meeting this Wednesday at 5:30 PM in the main gym for any Football or Basketball player currently in grades 8th through 11th. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss upcoming summer schedules and expectations for athletes.

 

The Pocket Athletic Conference announced their postseason awards over the weekend for Boys Basketball and several Mt. Vernon and North Posey players were recognized. On the 1st Team All-Conference was Nicot Burnett from Mt. Vernon and Jackson Graff from North Posey. Listed on the Honorable Mention Team was Mt. Vernon’s Jackson Clowers and North Posey’s Colin Schipp.

 

The Purdue Boilermakers Men’s Basketball team was the regular season Big 10 champions and yesterday they won the Big 10 Tournament in Chicago for the first time since 2009. The Boilermakers topped 10th seeded Penn State, 67-65. Zach Edey had 30 points and 12 rebounds. Purdue is 29-5 heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Moments after the Big 10 Tournament Championship game, the NCAA released the brackets for the NCAA Tournament. Purdue earned a #1 seed in the East Region and will play on Friday at 5:50 PM against the winner of Texas Southern and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Indiana Hoosiers are a #4 seed in the Midwest Region and will battle #13 seed Kent State on Friday at 8:55 PM. The Kentucky Wildcats were awarded the #6 seed in the East Region and their first game will be on Friday at 6:10 PM against #11 Providence. The Illinois Fighting Illini were given the #9 seed in the West Region and will have to play #8 seed Arkansas on Thursday at 3:30 PM.

 

USI Men’s Basketball’s season isn’t over quite yet. We reported last week that the Screaming Eagles accepted an invitation to the CBI Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida. It’s a 16-team single elimination tournament that runs from March 18th through the 22nd. Last night, they released the bracket for the field and USI is the #15 seed. The Screaming Eagles will play #2 seed San Jose State on Saturday at 2:30 PM. USI is 16-16 in their first Division One season and San Jose State has a record of 20-13.

 

Sports:

- Evansville Baseball (9-7) took 2-of-3 at Middle Tennessee as the Purple Aces won yesterday, 5-3. UE has won 9-of-11 after starting the season 0-5. 

- Evansville Softball (14-9) snapped an 8-game losing streak on Sunday as they beat Lipscomb on the road, 5-2.

- USI Baseball (6-9) ended a 6-game losing streak with a 12-11 victory at home yesterday against Oakland University in 11 innings. The Screaming Eagles scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 11th to win. 

- USI Softball (8-11, 2-1) picked up a conference road series win as they defeated Morehead State, 9-5 on Sunday.
