Over the weekend, North Posey Volleyball won a pair of matches to earn a Class 2A Sectional 48 Championship. In their semi-final match Saturday morning, North Posey won in straight sets against Crawford County to advance to the championship match. Then, Saturday evening the Vikings beat Tell City in straight sets as well to lock up a sectional championship and advance to Regionals. North Posey Volleyball plays again this Saturday against Brownstown Central at 12:30 PM. If they win that match, they will play for the regional championship later in the night against the winner of Houser and Linton-Stockton. The regional is hosted by Mitchell High School. In that first match on Saturday, Brownstown Central has a record of 17-15, while North Posey Volleyball is 26-7 on the season.  

The Mount Vernon Police Department has extended the application deadline for new officers until October 28^th, 2022. If you need an application, visit the City of Mount Vernon's new website at https://www.mountvernonin.gov and click on the police tab. The department provides great benefits, including shift differential pay, paid holidays, longevity pay, take home car, uniform allowance, retirement plan, and a new proposed pay scale. The proposed 2023 budget includes an 8% pay increase for police employees, which would bring the starting pay to $48,656. Lateral officers are eligible for immediate pay increases and an abbreviated hiring process. The annual USI Midnight Madness event returns this Thursday evening to Screaming Eagles Arena on campus, to introduce the inaugural Division I USI Women's and Men's Basketball teams. Doors open 8:30 PM and the event is open to the public, free of charge. Midnight Madness starts at 9:00 PM. with an introduction from USI’s Director of Athletics, Jon Mark Hall. The evening will then feature USI Women's and Men's Basketball team introductions, performances from the USI Cheer and Dance teams, giveaways, and a variety of student and fan competitions. Free refreshments will also be available at concession stands in the Arena. 

USI Men's Basketball enters its third season under the leadership of Head Coach Stan Gourard. The team opens its season at the University of Missouri on November 7^th.

USI Women’s Basketball enters its 24^th season under Head Coach Rick Stein. They tip off their season at home against Oakland City University on November 7^th.

Local Sports From Over The Weekend:

- UE Women's Soccer lost yesterday at Belmont, 2-1. The Purple Aces fall to 1-9-5 on the year and 0-6-3 in the MVC.

- UE Men's Soccer picked up a win on Saturday at SIUE, 2-1. They improve to 5-3-4 on the season. 

- UE Volleyball split their weekend on the road. Purple Aces lost in 4-sets on Friday at Bradley, then turned around to win in straight-sets at Illinois State on Saturday. UE is 8-15 overall, but 5-4 in the MVC.

- USI Women's Soccer dropped a match at home yesterday against UT Martin, 1-0. The Screaming Eagles are 4-6-4, 0-4-2 OVC. 

- USI Volleyball lost both of their matches at home against Southeast Missouri State. They lost in straight-sets on Friday and in 4-sets on Saturday. USI is 1-19 on the year and 1-8 in the OVC.
