Mt Vernon Police and Fire will be handing out bags of candy at the fire station today from 3:00 PM until they run out of candy. While you're there, check out the FREE haunted house on the other end of the station. American Thunder and a couple of other groups will also be giving out candy. 

Trick or Treat Fudgery is back at 3 Chicks Fudgery today. They will be handing out free fudge cones to kids in costumes. This will take place from 2:00-6:00 PM today. They are located at 305 Main Street in Mt. Vernon.
 

North Posey Football took care of business on Friday in the second round of sectionals as the Vikings defeated the Paoli Rams on the road, 55-31. With the victory, North Posey improves to 9-2 and advances to the Class 2A Sectional 40 Championship game this Friday night. The Vikings will play Mater Dei at the Reitz Bowl at 7:00 PM. We will have the radio broadcast on 98.9 WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Jordan Fisher will bring you all the action on Friday with the pregame show at 6:45 PM.

 

Agencies rushed to the scene Sunday afternoon after a plane crashed at the Helfrich Park Golf Course on 1550 Mesker Park Drive. The call for the crash came in at 1:59 PM. Dispatch says three of the four people inside the small plane were taken to the hospital. Sources say the plane is registered to a company out of Atlanta. According to FlightAware, the plane was on its way to Gallatin, Tennessee when it began descending at 7,000 feet around 1:45 PM. Just over ten minutes later, officials say the plane was down to 1600 feet and then completely went off radar. Sergeant Anna Grays says the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

 

Local Sports From Over The Weekend:

- University of Evansville Men's Basketball beat Oakland City in their exhibition opener on Saturday Ford Center, 81-56. The Purple Aces will play one more exhibition game on Wednesday against Huntington University at 7:00 PM. 

- University of Evansville Women's Basketball also won their exhibition game on Saturday vs Roosevelt, 101-57. UE opens up their regular season on Monday, November 7th at Eastern Kentucky University. 

- Purple Aces Volleyball won both of their matches on the road over the weekend. They beat Valparaiso on the road in 4-sets Friday and Illinois Chicago in 4-sets on Saturday. UE improves to 10-17 overall and 7-6 in the MVC. 

- Evansville Men's Soccer lost at Illinois Chicago on Saturday, 2-0. UE has one match left in the regular season as they sit at 6-4-5 on the year and 3-2-2 in the MVC. 

- USI Volleyball dropped two more matches at home over the weekend, both to Morehead State in straight-sets. The Screaming Eagles are 1-23 and 1-12 in the OVC.

- USI Women's Soccer saw their season come to an end as they lost in the first round of the conference tournament to Lindenwood on Friday, 2-1. They finished the year at 5-8-4.
