A Mount Vernon woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers says 34-year-old Sarah Mann pled guilty to multiple charges, including arson, attempted residential entry and criminal trespass. Clowers says as part of her guilty plea, Mann admitted to damaging two buildings in Mount Vernon back in July 2022. She also admitted to entering a home without permission around the same time. Mann will be transported to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve her sentence.

 

A water main that was damaged, affected German Township Water customers yesterday. According to a release, customers in the areas of Wadesville, Blairsville, Stewartsville and Poseyville were all affected. North Posey schools released around 11:00 AM yesterday. The Posey County Emergency Management posted on Facebook that several areas should begin boiling their drinking water. German Township Water customers located from the intersection of Hwy 66 and Winery Road to the northwest and including the towns of Blairsville, Wadesville, and Stewartsville. This temporary precautionary measure is recommended due to a water main being damaged in the distribution system. The repairs have been completed; however, water pressure did fall below the mandated 20 psi during the repair work. It is recommended that all cooking and drinking water be brought to a complete boil for five minutes before using.

 

Mesker Park Zoo is inviting families to come celebrate Earth in April. Officials with the zoo say they're planning to host a "Party for the Planet" event on Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The event is included with admission, and will feature local vendors, live music, animal encounters, face painting, games, prizes, and more. Admission for adults is $11 and $10 for kids ages 3-12. Kids 2 and under get in for free.

Sports:

  • Mt. Vernon Softball (7-4) defeated Harrison on the road, 13-5.

 

  • North Posey Baseball (5-4) cruised past Vincennes on the road, 10-0.

 

  • North Posey Softball (7-0) is still perfect as they earned a road win at Tecumseh, 9-2. Erin Hoehn struck out 14 batters.

 

  • USI Softball (15-17) took care of Butler at home, 4-1.

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (5-7) earned a series win as they won the rubber game at the Rockies, 7-4. Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, and Tyler O’Neil all cranked home runs for the Redbirds.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (6-5) slipped up at home against the Mariners, 5-2.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (4-7) lost in Atlanta against the Braves, 5-4.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (5-8) got beat in Minnesota against the Twins, 3-1.
