The last day to apply for the Mt. Vernon River Days "Pay it Forward Award" is noon this Friday, August 19th. If you are a Posey County non-profit group/organization that has a project that would benefit the community, then go to the Mt. Vernon River Days website and download the app right away for a chance to be awarded up to $1000. The guidelines and instructions are also found on the website. If you have an application that needs to be personally delivered to meet the deadline, contact (812) 483-2922 for delivery instructions. 

 

Officials at Ivy Tech Community College in Evansville, say threats of violence were made against the campus on Wednesday. A statement issued by Ivy Tech Evansville on Wednesday morning said that a bomb threat had been made against the college. After the threat was made, Ivy Tech says police were notified, swept the building, and determined the campus was safe. In a statement Ivy Tech said, "Ivy Tech takes every threat seriously, and works through our public safety team and local law enforcement to keep our campus community safe."

 

College classes begin next week for both USI and UE students. Yesterday was the first day for students to move in at USI. New students started the move-in yesterday and other move-ins will take place the rest of the week depending on your class. USI students begin class this coming Monday while UE Freshman will be moving in today, with students starting class there on Wednesday.

 

Sports: 

Mt. Vernon Volleyball defeated Wood Memorial on the road last night in 4 sets (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13). Kaleigh Kelley had 12 kills and 6 aces. Brooke Sledd had 20 digs. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 on the season.
