A Posey County woman who was accused of murdering her husband in 2018 has reached a plea deal. The sheriff’s office arrested Peggy Higginson, of Wadesville, back in 2018. She was accused of killing her husband, Troy Higginson, in a deadly domestic dispute shooting. Deputies say they found Troy in the driver’s seat of a car in the middle of Wade Road with a gunshot wound to his chest. Court records show Higginson entered a plea deal on Tuesday. She pled guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter. Higginson is set to be sentenced on October 6th.

 

Skanska has signed a purchase agreement for its ownership of Industrial Contractors Skanska (ICS), which is a construction management and development subsidiary of Skanska USA Civil. They say the buyer is an industrial contracting company, Sterling Industrial, LLC, a Traylor Construction Group company based in Evansville. The transaction is expected to close in September. Officials say by purchasing ICS, Sterling gains a group of talented people, and additional resources and equipment. They say Sterling will also become one of the largest employers in the Tri-State.

 

Half Pot tickets are on sale again this year to benefit Mt. Vernon River Days and the American Legion Post #5. Over $7,500 was raised last year. Visit the Legion, United Fidelity Bank, 3 Chicks Fudgery, IGA, or Printcrafters for tickets. They are $5 each, or you can purchase three tickets for $10.

 

Local Sports From Last Night: 

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball defeated Central in straight-sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-14). Mallory Nurrenbern led the offense with 16 kills. Brooke Sledd had 17 digs. The Wildcats improve to 4-2 on the season.

- Evansville Otters beat Joliet last night to improve to 47-38 and increase their lead for a playoff spot. With 10 games left, the Otters have a 3-game lead over Joliet. Evansville goes for the 3-game sweep tonight at Bosse Field at 6:35 PM.
