The MSD of North Posey County is currently seeking bus drivers for the 2023-2024 school year as well as applications for substitute drivers. They say they are happy to assist with reimbursement for driver training fees, but the deadline for the next training is quickly approaching. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb is directing flags to be flown at half-staff in Vanderburgh County today in honor of Deputy Hacker. Businesses and residents around Vanderburgh County are asked to lower their flags to half-staff from sunrise until sunset today. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office announced Deputy Hacker’s passing earlier in March, and said that he had died at the young age of 33 after falling ill while participating in training. He leaves behind a wife and three young children. Deputy Hacker's funeral is scheduled to take place this morning, with an escort detail provided by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office and the Evansville Police Department from Boone Funeral Home to Christian Fellowship Church.

 

In a first-time partnership, The Evansville Thunderbolts are teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Ford Center ahead of the team's game on Saturday. The Thunderbolts will be having their Pink in the Rink and Heart Health Wellness night. Prior to the 7:00 PM game on Saturday, the blood drive will take place. It will happen from noon to 6 p.m. at the Ford Center's Hospitality Room. This event coincides with the team’s theme night. All blood types are welcomed. Nearly a quarter of the American Red Cross blood supply goes to cancer patients. Anyone who gives blood at the drive will get to purchase game tickets for the rest of the season at a discounted rate. Anyone who gives in March will also get a $10 prepaid card by email, plus a chance to win a $3,000 prepaid Visa card. USI Athletics posted on Twitter yesterday that the Screaming Eagles Men’s Basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the 2023 CBI Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida. This is a 16-team single elimination tournament that runs from March 18th through March 22nd at the Ocean Center. USI went 16-16 in their first Division One season. The post on Twitter says more information regarding the tournament will be coming next week.

 

Sports: 

- Evansville Baseball (7-6) lost a marathon game at #7 Vanderbilt last night, 2-1 in 17 innings. The loss snaps the Purple Aces 7-game winning streak. 

- USI Softball (6-10) finished up play down in Florida at Madeira Beach by splitting their final two games yesterday. The Screaming Eagles lost 5-0 and won 5-3 against Long Island University. 

- From Men's College Basketball...in the Big East Tournament, Butler (14-18) lost to St. John's, 76-63. In the Conference USA Tournament, WKU (17-15) survived against UTEP, 73-67. The Tops play FAU tonight at 5:30 PM.
