A Mt. Vernon woman was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail yesterday on dozens of charges. 44-year-old Kimberly Williams faces close to 60 charges total. More than 40 of them are theft between $750 and $50,000. All are Level 6 felonies. Prosecutors allege she systematically stole more than $100,000 from her employer, Mountain Glacier LLC, while she worked as the company bookkeeper. Police say she used the embezzled funds to buy bikinis, hot tub parts, furniture and to pay off debt, among a slew of other purchases. The fraud was discovered in late 2021 when Mountain Glacier owner, Jay Peterson became suspicious of Williams and ordered an audit. According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Evansville Police Department, Williams' manager at Mountain Glacier contacted police in January to report Williams had been embezzling money since 2019. Williams had a $10,000 cash bond, which was posted shortly after she was booked.

EVSC board member and bar owner, Amy Word, appeared in court yesterday for a review hearing. She’s accused of maintaining a common nuisance involving controlled substances, which is a felony. Word was arrested last month in connection to a series of drug arrests in the area of her Lamasco Bar and Grill on West Franklin Street. During her hearing yesterday morning, she was reassigned to the Vanderburgh County Circuit Court. Additionally, Word was ordered to continue Drug Abuse Probation Services, which was set as a condition of release during her first appearance in court. Word is expected back in court on September 19 at 9:00 AM. She is on a leave of absence from the school board.

The top 3 teams make the playoffs. They have a 2.5 game lead for a playoff spot over Lake Erie. However, the 2nd and 3rd place teams have to play a one-game playoff. The Otters right now would have to travel to Schaumburg for that playoff game as they are a game and half back of 2nd place. Evansville hopes to avoid a 3-game sweep tonight at Washington at 6:05 PM.
