Officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the WillowTree of Posey County Healing Garden yesterday in Brittlebank Park. Ground was broken in Mt. Vernon on the garden in 2021 to commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Officials say the garden is a space for contemplation and relaxation for the community and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The garden features trees, shrubs, and flowers native to southern Indiana. A Peace Pole will also be installed as part of the 2023 Regional Victim Services collaboration. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week will be commemorated from April 23-29th.

 

Posey County Royalty Pageants posted on Facebook that the registration has opened for the 2023 Posey County Princess, Duchess, Miss Teen, and Miss Posey County pageants. Holiday World will now have new housing for the employees when the park opens. Holiday World officials held a ribbon cutting Monday morning on its Compass Commons Apartments. The commons feature 35 rooms to accommodate 136 holiday world team members. Park officials say the housing will be used for active team members who are international college students or live more than 50 miles from the park. The apartment is filled for the year, and team members will move in within the next few weeks.

 

Yesterday the new rankings came out for high school baseball and softball in the state. Starting with the high school baseball rankings…in Class 4A, Castle is 9th and North is 7th. In Class 3A, Jasper is ranked 3rd. From Class 2A, Forest Park is ranked number 1. In Class 1A, Barr-Reeve is 5th and Tecumseh is 4th. Schools in the area that are receiving votes include Central, Memorial, Southridge, South Knox, and North Daviess.

Moving on to the high school softball rankings where in Class 4A, North is 14th. Class 3A has Pike Central 6th and Gibson Southern 3rd. From Class 2A, North Posey earns the top spot as they are ranked 1st. Finishing up with Class 1A, as Northeast Dubois is 11th, Tecumseh 3rd, and Barr-Reeve is 2nd.

Sports:

  • North Posey Baseball (9-6) defeated Evansville Christian 8-4 last night.

 

  • North Posey Softball (12-0) squeaked by Heritage Hills at home 1-0 in 8 innings. Erin Hoehn threw a no-hitter for the Vikings and struck out 21 batters.

 

  • Mt. Vernon Softball (10-5) picked up a 5-2 win at Carmi.

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (9-14) lost the opener of their 4-game set in San Francisco against the Giants last night, 4-0.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (8-15) walked off the Texas Rangers at home, 7-6

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (7-16) lost their 5th straight game falling at the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-2.
