North Posey High School is having an eLearning Day today. The High School has been without air conditioning due to a technical issue. The technician thought he was going to be able to get the system back online yesterday, but realized around lunch time that the system board was nonoperational. The part has been ordered. Again, North Posey High School will have an eLearning Day today. All other schools will be in session.

 

Indiana State Police detectives have arrested 48-year-old Melissa Wade, of Mt. Vernon, for allegedly shooting her husband during an argument that happened inside their residence Friday evening. Wade has been released from Deaconess Midtown Hospital and is currently being held without bond in the Posey County Jail. Herbert Wade is still being treated for his injuries. Melissa Wade is being charged with Attempted Murder, which is a Level 1 Felony, Aggravated Battery which is a Level 3 Felony, and Battery with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony. Detectives say the married couple was involved in an argument when Melissa allegedly shot Herbert in the chest with a handgun. Detectives also believe Melissa accidentally shot herself in the leg. According to ISP, a minor was in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were uninjured.

 

Bull Island Revisited is coming to the American Legion in Mt. Vernon this Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. At 10:00 AM there will be guest speakers and stories. Then at 11:00 AM there will be acoustic guitar music.

Coming up soon is the Mt. Vernon River Days on September 9th and 10th. On Saturday September 10th at the River Days, there will be a Cornhole Tournament along the riverfront. Sign-ups at 12:00 PM and the tournament starts at 1:00 PM. Cost per-team is 30 dollars.

 

The next court appearance for EVSC board member and bar owner, Amy Word, has been moved up from late next month to this week. Word is accused of maintaining a common nuisance involving controlled substances, which is a felony. She was arrested in July in connection to a series of drug arrests in the vicinity of her Lamasco Bar and Grill on West Franklin Street. Word will appear before Judge Wayne Trockman for a review hearing Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM.
