Coming up this evening, postseason play gets underway for local High School Basketball teams with the first round of sectionals. Mt. Vernon who went 9-15 during the regular season will battle Boonville tonight in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville High School. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the radio broadcast on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Boonville beat Mt. Vernon in the regular season matchup back on February 10th at Mt. Vernon, 51-39.

North Posey Boys Basketball finished their regular season with a 12-10 record. The Vikings will take on South Spencer this evening at 6:00 PM in the first round of the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City High School. You will be able to hear that game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. North Posey lost to South Spencer in the regular season on the road back on January 20th, 80-57.

 

A Posey County man with 6.5 years left of a prison sentence has been granted clemency by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. Tommy Alsman was convicted in 2019 for dealing meth and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Officials say the 41-year-old Alsman has served 3.5 years. They say he’s been diagnosed with an inoperable stage 4 brain tumor, and has only a few weeks or months left to live. Officials say Alsman will be released to hospice care. He’ll be on parole, and in the unlikely event he improves, he’ll go back to prison.

 

The Posey County Auditor’s Office posted on Facebook that they are now accepting resumes for the position of part-time deputy Auditor. This position will work Monday through Friday approximately 30 hours a week. Duties will include basic clerical work, including greeting customers, answering phones, and assisting other deputies. They are looking for a candidate that is detail orientated and can work well with others. Please submit all resumes via mail or in person to The Posey County Auditors Office by Friday March 17th. The office is located at 126 E Third Street Room 220 in Mt. Vernon.

 

The Mt. Vernon Police Department says it hosted an active shooter response training Sunday at the high school. The department said that though it hopes an active shooting never happens, officers need to be prepared for anything. MVPD says members of the Mt. Vernon Fire Department helped by playing different roles in the training simulation.

 

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff, Noah Robinson, one victim has been found shot in the road on Cypress Dale Road and South Happe Road. The sheriff says a second victim was found dead inside a home near the intersection of Cypress Dale Road and South Happe Road. Dispatch says the call came in at 4:43 p.m. Officials say they have two persons of interest. The sheriff says one suspect is being questioned by detectives while the other suspect was later located by EPD behind a business near Morgan Avenue and North Boeke Road and is being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Sheriff’s Office will hold a news conference at Sheriff’s Headquarters on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

 

This weekend, Deaconess and the American Red Cross are partnering to offer free CPR training. Officials say it’s hands only training, which means this is not the hours long certification training. They say the class will teach you how to do proper compressions. Doctors say compressions could be the difference between life and death. The training is set to be at Deaconess Gateway on Saturday. It will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Officials say you must be at least 14 years or older to participate and pre-register online.
