The Mt. Vernon Police Department posted a reminder on Facebook that it’s time to renew your golf cart registration if you plan to drive it on the street. If it has been previously inspected by the police department, all you will need to do is come to the police department with current proof of insurance on your golf cart. If it is a new cart, or has never been inspected, it will require a full inspection of the cart by the police department. Any questions, you can call 812-838-8705.

 

Mt. Vernon High School says there will be a parent and athlete meeting this Wednesday at 5:30 PM in the main gym for any Football or Basketball player currently in grades 8th through 11th. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss upcoming summer schedules and expectations for athletes.

 

EVSC board member who is on voluntary leave and Lamasco Bar owner, Amy Word appeared back in court yesterday morning. Word is accused of maintaining a common nuisance involving controlled substances. She was arrested back in July in connection with a series of drug arrests in the area of her bar on West Franklin Street. On Monday, a pre-trial conference date was set for April 11th at 10:00 AM to discuss a change of venue. A progress hearing was also set and is expected to happen May 8th at 9:00 AM. During her last hearing back in January, a judge approved a motion for Word to travel.

 

Vanderburgh Humane Society officials say they are critically full and are willing to let you name your price to adopt a dog. Up until this Saturday March 18th, adopters will have the opportunity to name their adoption fee. Shelter officials say the special is only for dog adoptions. They say the shelter has over 70 dogs on-site with 31 waiting in foster care and 15 scheduled to be surrendered next week. All adoption requirements still apply.

 

According to a release, coming up this summer in Evansville, there will be a first annual “Help the Community Scrabble Tournament.” The event will be held on June 3rd at the VFW on Wabash Avenue. Organizers say proceeds from the tournament will go to Vanderburgh Humane Society and Aurora. The tournament will consist of three competing levels, pro, semi-pro, and fun. Each team must consist of one to three people. Tickets for the pro and semi-pro teams will be $40 per-team. Tickets for the fun tables will be #30 per-team.
