The Mt. Vernon Police Department posted that Clerk-Treasurer Sitzman swore in MVPD's newest members on Tuesday morning. Those new members include Police Chief Andy Rush and Officer Levi Hoehn. Police Chief Rush was appointed by Mayor Curtis at last week's Board of Public Works meetings. Officer Hoehn was previously a reserve officer and started full-time with the Mt. Vernon Police Department several weeks ago.

 

United Fidelity Bank's 13th annual Community Day will be Saturday, August 20th. The event will take place at the Mt. Vernon Banking Center, located at 500 East Fourth Street in Mt. Vernon from 10 AM to 1 PM. You can stop by and enjoy free hotdogs, popcorn, snow cones, and drinks. They will also have drawings for IU Football tickets, Brew Fest tickets, Western Hills Country Club golf passes, plus various other great prizes. Inflatable games will be set up for the kids to enjoy. In addition, Musician Nick Smith and Mt. Vernon High School Cheerleaders and Pep Band will be on hand to provide additional entertainment. More than 30 local civic and community organizations will be available. Community Day is free of charge, including food and refreshments courtesy of United Fidelity Bank and McKim's IGA. 

 

University of Southern Indiana Athletics posted on social media yesterday that their long-time radio play-by-play voice of Men's Basketball, Dan Egierski is stepping away from the microphone. Egierski has announced that he is semi-retiring after spending more than 35 years at USI's primary play-by-play voice on the radio. 

 

Sports:

- Last night Mt. Vernon Girls Golf finished second out of three teams in their match at Helfrich Golf Course. Central finished first (192), Mt. Vernon second (196), and Tecumseh third (224). Hadley Weatherford led the Wildcats with a score of 44. 

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball fell at Mater Dei in 5-sets. The Wildcats drop to 1-1 on the season.

- Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis lost at Reitz 3-2. 

- North Posey Volleyball defeated Evansville Christian in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-22).
