Last night, High School Boys’ Basketball postseason play got underway with the first round of sectionals. The North Posey Vikings are moving on to the second round as they defeated South Spencer, 58-56. The Vikings improve their record to 13-10 and will play Perry Central on Friday night at 6:00 PM in the second round of the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Tell City High School.

The Mt. Vernon Wildcats saw their season come to an end as they fell in the first round of the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Bonville, losing to Boonville 58-49. The Wildcats finish up the season with a 9-16 record.

Checking on other local sectional scores from last night. In Class 4A Sectional 16 at North High School, Reitz topped Castle 53-51 and Jasper squeaked by Harrison 51-48. Moving on to Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville, we already touched on Boonville beating Mt. Vernon. The other game saw Mater Dei with a thriller against Bosse 58-57. In the Class 3A Sectional 31 at Washington, Heritage Hills defeated Southridge 42-37. Finishing up with Class 1A Sectional 64 at Wood Memorial, Evansville Christian survived a scare from Wood Memorial 48-46 and Day School cruised past Cannelton 89-34.

 

The Posey County Council on Aging is offering free tax services through the Center for those that are 60 years and older with an income of $57,000 or less. This is being offered through April 7th. You can call or stop by the office to make your appointment. Posey County Council on Aging is located at 618 W. Eighth Street in Mt. Vernon.

 

Anyone in Evansville who's ever thought about being a firefighter could take the first step in that process today. The Evansville Fire Department says that starting today, it will begin accepting applications to start its hiring process. There are several requirements to join the department, like being at least 21, a citizen of the US, having a valid driver’s license, never having been convicted of a felony, and more. The examination process includes a written test or tests, an oral interview, and a physical ability test. The first-year probationary salary for EFD firefighters is $56,883, plus benefits and pension/retirement plans. For more information and to apply, visit evansvillegov.org. 

 

Eight Women’s and Men’s teams including USI Men’s Basketball, will tip off today at Ford Center as they look to punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament apart of the OVC Tournament. The four-day tournament has held in Evansville at Ford Center since 2018. Officials have signed an agreement to keep the games here through 2026 with an option for 2027. You can catch the action beginning today with women's games at 1 and 3:30 PM. Following that, the men's games are at 6:30 and 9:00 PM. USI Men’s Basketball will tip off for their first O-V-C tournament appearance at 9pm against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. 

 

Sports:

- In Men's College Basketball last night...#15 IU (20-10) got crushed at home by Iowa, 90-68. Trayce Jackson-Davis had 26 points and 13 rebounds in the loss for the Hoosiers. Butler (14-16) lost at home against #6 Marquette, 72-56. Ball State (20-10) fell at Akron, 87-83. Lousiville (4-26) got beat again at home by Virginia Tech, 71-54. 

- The Indiana Pacers (28-35) won in Dallas last night against the Mavericks, 124-122. It's the Pacers second-straight win on the road, a part of a 4-game roadtrip. Tyrese Haliburton had 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists for Indiana.
