The Mt. Vernon Marching Wildcats present their community performance tomorrow night at the Football Field. The performance gets underway at 7:30 PM.

 

One more reminder that Family Matters of Posey County is accepting applications for the Christmas Assistance Program. Applications are available at Family Matters, all County Trustee’s offices, and many area churches. All completed applications must be returned to the Trustee’s office, or Trinity United Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon by noon today.

 

Coming up this Sunday at the Western Hills Country Club in Mt. Vernon is the 11th Annual Jack Lawson Memorial Elks Veterans Golf Scramble. Tee Time is set for 9:00 AM. Everyone is welcome whether it’s teams or individuals. The cost for individual players is $50, hole sponsors are $50, event sponsors are $100, and team sponsors are $200. This outing supports the Elks local veteran’s programs throughout the year. You can sign up at the Elks in Mt. Vernon.  

 

Tickets remain for the West Side Nut Club #CureFA exhibition baseball game scheduled for October 22nd at Bosse Field between USI and Kent State University. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at USI Athletics and all Banterra Bank locations in Evansville and Newburgh. Fans also can purchase tickets on-line at curefa.org/USIBaseball.  

The 2:00 PM exhibition game on Saturday, October 22nd will benefit the fight against Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), which is a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that affects one in 50,000 people in the United States.
The game previews the 2023 USI Screaming Eagles, who will be concluding their fall workouts.

 

A major increase to pay and benefits for deputy sheriffs in Vanderburgh County was approved yesterday. A news release says that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners unanimously approved a contract on Tuesday that raises salaries for deputies by 30% over the next four years. According to the release, the contract also increases longevity and retention benefits for deputies with the sheriff's office. When comparing salary and benefits to deputy sheriffs in other Indiana counties, the new contract takes Vanderburgh County from near the bottom of the list to near the top. Final week of the High School Football regular season is coming up this Friday night. Yesterday, the updated AP Polls were released. In Class 5A Castle is 10th. Class 4A has Reitz 6th, Jasper 13th, and Memorial 14th. Moving on the Class 3A where Gibson Southern is 2nd and Southridge is 10th. Class 2A features Mater Dei 4th, Perry Central 13th, and North Posey 16th. Finishing up in Class 1A where Tecumseh is 7th.

In the final week of the regular season this Friday, 4-4 Mt. Vernon plays host to Washington and 6-2 North Posey is home against Pike Central.

 

Local Sports From Last Night:

- University of Evansville Men's Soccer lost 2-0 at Louisville. The Purple Aces fall to 4-3-4 on the year.
