Mentioned during the news yesterday that the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival is set to kick off next Monday. The Mount Vernon Police Department is hiring more officers. They are accepting applications until October 7th. Applications can be picked up at the Mount Vernon Police Department. Starting pay is 45,052 dollars, with 2,000 dollars increase upon completion of one year probation period, plus annual city increases. The position does include paid holidays as well as health, dental, vision, and life insurance. Applicants must be between the ages of 21-39 at the time of application. You also must have a high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, pass drug screens post-job offer, and have no felony convictions.

 

Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball announced that they will be having their 2nd Annual Trivia Night on November 12th. The Trivia Night will be held at the American Legion in Mt. Vernon, as last year they had over 100 participants. There will be dinner and prizes. To participate in the Trivia Night, the cost is 25 dollars per-player with teams up to 6 players. Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana hosted the 21st annual J. A. Free Enterprise Invitational golf tournament. The annual golf scramble is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year. The event took place at Victoria National Golf Club. It consisted of thirty-three teams of four playing 18 holes. Junior Achievement supports youth by showing them how money, careers, and business ownership work so they are ready to own their economic success. The event also included a celebrity shoot-out contest between Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and UE Men’s Basketball Head Coach David Ragland, where the mayor came out on top.

 

Local Sports From Last Night:

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball lost in 5-sets at home against Gibson Southern. The Wildcats lost the 5th set, 15-13. MV is now 9-7 on the season.

- Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer defeated North Posey on the road, 4-0. MV improves to 8-5 and North Posey falls to 3-10.

- North Posey Volleyball breezed by Wood Memorial in straight-sets at home. Vikings run their record to 16-5.

- North Posey Boys Soccer got beat at home by Forest Park, 6-1. North Posey is still winless at 0-12.

- USI Volleyball lost an OVC match at home against Eastern Illinois in 4-sets. The Screaming Eagles still have not won this year as they are now 0-14.
