Mount Vernon VS Boonville Game Recap 08-28-26

The Mount Vernon Wildcats fell to 0-and-2 on the season Friday night following a 40-to-nothing home loss to the Boonville Pioneers.

Boonville opened the scoring on an eight-yard touchdown run by Mason Jones with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter. Mount Vernon had an opportunity to answer later in the quarter, but a 30-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

The Pioneers took control in the second quarter. Jones scored again from seven yards out before Boonville turned a Mount Vernon interception into another touchdown just over a minute later. Tripp Kelly added a two-yard touchdown run late in the half to give Boonville a 27-to-nothing halftime advantage.

Boonville added two more touchdowns in the second half, including Jones' third touchdown of the night, to produce the 40-to-nothing final.

The Pioneers finished with 288 yards of offense, including 233 yards rushing. Jones led the way with 131 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.

Mount Vernon finished with 115 total yards. Eastin Hall led the Wildcats on the ground with 52 yards on 17 carries, while Paxton Boyd added 27 yards on six attempts. Quarterback Johnathon Crowe completed seven of 14 passes for 23 yards and was intercepted three times.

Mount Vernon travels to Fort Branch next Friday to take on Gibson Southern.
