Mount Vernon Wildcats VS Heritage Hills 10-02-26

Mount Vernon showed improvement Friday night against a strong Heritage Hills team, but the Patriots were able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities and pull away for a 35-7 victory at Memorial Field.
The Wildcats battled throughout the night and turned in a stronger performance than a week ago at Southridge, but Heritage Hills used a balanced offensive attack to build a 21-0 halftime advantage.
Heritage Hills opened the scoring with 36.3 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Tyce Winchell broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run. Junior Mendoza added the extra point to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead.
Winchell scored again with 4:16 remaining in the second quarter, finding the end zone on a two-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0. Heritage Hills added another touchdown just before halftime when Winchell connected with Jayden Worley on a five-yard touchdown pass, sending the Patriots into the locker room leading 21-0.
Heritage Hills quickly added to its advantage after halftime. Micah Toler caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Winchell with 11:08 remaining in the third quarter, and Asa Palmer added a two-yard touchdown reception later in the quarter. Mendoza converted all five of his extra-point attempts as the Patriots built a 35-0 lead.
Mount Vernon broke through with 6:05 remaining in the fourth quarter when Eastin Hall scored on a one-yard run. Wade York's extra point accounted for the final margin of 35-7.
Heritage Hills finished with 350 yards of offense, showing nearly perfect balance with 177 rushing yards and 173 passing yards. Jackson Smith led the Patriots on the ground with 117 yards on 19 carries, while Winchell rushed four times for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Micah Toler led the Heritage Hills receiving corps with seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Asa Palmer caught five passes for 35 yards and a score, while Worley had the five-yard touchdown reception.
Mount Vernon finished with 162 yards of total offense, including 117 yards rushing and 45 through the air. Hall led the Wildcats with 89 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Saint Henderson added 21 yards on nine attempts.
Ryan Lilleston led Mount Vernon's receivers with two catches for 32 yards. Henderson had one reception for three yards, while Wastna Biggerstaff caught one pass for 10 yards.
Defensively, Jordan Greathouse came up with a big play for Mount Vernon, intercepting a Heritage Hills pass in the Wildcats' end zone to stop a Patriots scoring threat. Heritage Hills recorded two interceptions, one each by Tyce Winchell and Matthew Gordon.
Mount Vernon will look to build on Friday night's performance when the Wildcats return home next Friday to face Washington at Memorial Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
