Mount Vernon Wildcats VS Princeton 09-18-26
The Mount Vernon Wildcats celebrated Homecoming in a big way Friday night, exploding for 56 first-half points on the way to a 56-20 victory over the Princeton Tigers at Memorial Field. The win was Mount Vernon’s first of the season.
The Wildcats wasted little time taking control. Eastin Hall opened the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown run and added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. After the Mount Vernon defense forced Princeton backward on its next possession, Clayton Hamilton returned the ensuing punt 32 yards for a touchdown, and Blake Bell’s extra point made it 15-0.
The big plays kept coming. Ryan Lilleston broke loose for an 83-yard touchdown run, followed by a 51-yard scoring run from Saint Henderson. Paxton Boyd added a 14-yard touchdown before the end of the opening quarter, giving Mount Vernon a commanding 35-0 advantage.
Henderson struck again early in the second quarter with a 39-yard touchdown run. Moments later, Mount Vernon recovered a bouncing kickoff deep in Princeton territory, setting up Hall’s second touchdown of the night on a three-yard run. Henderson then capped the first-half scoring with a 44-yard touchdown, sending the Wildcats into halftime with a 56-0 lead.
With Mount Vernon turning to its reserves in the second half, Princeton got its offense going. Freshman quarterback Huxley Vanover raced 76 yards for the Tigers’ first touchdown. Demetrius Medicis later added an 86-yard touchdown run, and Vanover scored again from 16 yards out in the fourth quarter to produce the 56-20 final.
Mount Vernon finished with 412 yards of offense on only 28 plays, including 350 yards rushing and 58 passing. The Wildcats had already piled up 379 yards by halftime.
Princeton finished with 194 total yards after being held to minus-21 yards on 27 first-half plays.
Saint Henderson led a balanced and explosive Mount Vernon scoring attack with three touchdown runs, while Eastin Hall scored twice. Ryan Lilleston, Paxton Boyd and the Wildcats’ special teams also found the end zone as Mount Vernon picked up its first victory of the season on Homecoming night.
The Wildcats will look to build on the win next week when they travel to Southridge for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
