Mount Vernon Wildcats VS Southridge 09-25-26
The Mount Vernon Wildcats fell behind early Friday night and couldn’t recover as Southridge rolled to a 42-14 victory at Raider Field.
The Raiders did all of their scoring in the first half, jumping out to a 28-0 lead in the opening quarter. Parker Steckler connected with Grayson Bolling for a 47-yard touchdown less than a minute into the game, and Hudson Montgomery followed with a 28-yard interception return for a score.
Maverick Wright added a 10-yard touchdown run before Steckler found Montgomery for a 21-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter.
Southridge added two more scores in the second. Bolling scored on runs of 10 and 18 yards as the Raiders carried a 42-0 advantage into halftime. Manny Duron converted all six Southridge extra points.
Neither team scored in the third quarter before Mount Vernon broke through in the fourth. Ryan Lilleston raced 72 yards for a touchdown, with Wade York adding the extra point.
The Wildcats struck again late when they blocked a Southridge punt and Saint Henderson recovered the football in the end zone for a touchdown. York's PAT made the final 42-14.
Southridge finished with 320 yards of offense despite running only 32 plays. Bolling rushed seven times for 69 yards and two touchdowns while also catching the 47-yard touchdown pass. Steckler completed five of six passes for 122 yards and two scores.
Mount Vernon finished with 134 yards on 32 plays. Lilleston led the Wildcats with 79 rushing yards on five carries, including the 72-yard touchdown. Henderson carried six times for 31 yards and added a 17-yard reception.
The loss drops Mount Vernon to 1-5 on the season. The Wildcats return home next Friday night when they host Heritage Hills.
