Mount Vernon Wildcats VS Washington 10-09-26

The Mount Vernon Wildcats delivered an impressive performance on Senior Night Friday, defeating the Washington Hatchets 45-14 at Memorial Field. The victory marked Mount Vernon's second win of the season and provided momentum heading into next week's Battle of Posey County against North Posey.

Washington opened the scoring when sophomore Antwan Tabor broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run in the opening minutes. Carter Browning added the extra point to give the Hatchets a 7-0 advantage.

The Wildcats responded with 8:25 remaining in the first quarter when junior Saint Henderson powered into the end zone from one yard out. Wade York connected on the extra point to tie the game at seven.

Mount Vernon took the lead later in the opening quarter when senior Eastin Hall scored on a two-yard touchdown run. York's extra point gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead.

The Wildcats took complete control in the second quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points. York connected on a 31-yard field goal before Henderson added his second touchdown of the night on a five-yard run.

With just 2.7 seconds remaining before halftime, senior quarterback Johnathon Crowe connected with Cael Collins on an 11-yard touchdown pass. York's extra point sent Mount Vernon into the locker room with a commanding 31-7 lead.

Mount Vernon kept the pressure on after halftime, opening the third quarter with an onside kick. Hall broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown run before adding a three-yard scoring carry later in the quarter. Both extra points were successful, extending the Wildcats' advantage to 45-7 and putting the running clock into effect.

Washington added the final touchdown of the evening when senior Chuck Holtsclaw scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Browning's extra point brought the final score to 45-14.

Hall and Henderson Lead Wildcats' Ground Game

Mount Vernon's offense produced 413 total yards, including 259 yards rushing and 154 through the air.

Senior Eastin Hall led the Wildcats with 159 rushing yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Junior Saint Henderson added 62 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Johnathon Crowe completed 8 of 12 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown.

Junior Ryan Lilleston led the Wildcats' receivers with three catches for 68 yards. Senior Maddex Salee added a 57-yard reception, while Cael Collins caught three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown. Henderson also contributed a four-yard reception.

Mount Vernon's offensive line turned in a strong performance, consistently creating running lanes for Hall and Henderson throughout the contest.

Defensively, the Wildcats held Washington to 192 total yards, including 151 on the ground and just 41 passing.

Antwan Tabor led the Hatchets with 105 rushing yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. Chuck Holtsclaw added 48 yards on seven carries and a score.

Mount Vernon's defensive front also pressured Washington quarterback Eden McPherson throughout the evening, recording multiple sacks and tackles for loss.

Wildcats Turn Attention to North Posey

Despite the convincing victory, Mount Vernon still has areas to improve. Two long touchdown runs, one each by Hall and Henderson, were called back because of penalties.

During the postgame broadcast on 106.7 WMVI, announcers Chris Cooke and Allen Buck praised the Wildcats' effort, particularly the offensive line and the physical running of Hall and Henderson.

The victory gives Mount Vernon a boost heading into one of its biggest games of the season.

Next Friday, the Wildcats travel to North Posey for the annual Battle of Posey County, with the Posey County Cup on the line. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
