North Posey Vikings VS Pike Central 09-18-26
The North Posey Vikings remained unbeaten Friday night with a dominant 58-0 victory over the Pike Central Chargers at Joe Gengelbach Field, giving head coach Waylon Schenk his 100th career victory.
North Posey wasted little time taking control. The Vikings opened the scoring with a 61-yard touchdown on their first offensive play and continued to pile up points following a lightning delay. North Posey carried a commanding 45-0 advantage into halftime.
The Vikings controlled the game on both sides of the football, while Pike Central entered the matchup shorthanded and dealt with additional injuries during the night. With the outcome well in hand, North Posey's starters saw little action in the second half, allowing a number of younger Vikings to pick up valuable varsity playing time.
Sophomore Joey Hisch helped finish off the victory with a strong fourth quarter. Hisch scored on touchdown runs of 19 and 11 yards and also broke loose for a 26-yard run that helped set up his second score.
Freshman Carter Hertel also made the most of his opportunity, including a 12-yard run as North Posey's younger players handled much of the second-half workload.
Ethan Ashby handled the majority of the Vikings' kicking duties. North Posey also converted a two-point attempt following a bad snap on an extra-point try. Evan Becker later connected on an extra point following one of Hisch's fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The Vikings' defense completed the shutout, keeping Pike Central off the scoreboard from start to finish in the 58-0 victory.
Following the game, longtime North Posey coach Joe Gengelbach presented Schenk with the game ball in recognition of his 100th career win.
The victory moves North Posey to a perfect 5-0 overall and 3-0 in PAC Small School Division play.
The Vikings return to the road next Friday night for another PAC Small School matchup against South Spencer.
