Mt. Vernon will have a new mayor. Republican candidate Steve Loehr defeated independent opponent Timothy Dunston with 90% of the vote. Dunston received 58 votes in opposition to Loehr’s 543 votes.

The voters of Evansville have chosen Democratic candidate Stephanie Terry as their next mayor. She won with 8,679 votes. Republican Natalie Rascher had 7,131 votes, and Libertarian Michael Daugherty had 2,032. Terry will become the first woman to be mayor in Evansville. She will also be the first Black person.

 

North Posey High School says the will be dismissing early from school this Friday at 1:00 PM. Any High School student not leaving at 1:00 PM will have supervision in the auditorium and ride the buses at 3:00 PM. In a release, the school says they are very excited for the recent success of the junior high and high school Spell Bowl Teams advancing to state, as well as the Football team playing in the Regional. The release says that they don’t normally dismiss school for extra-curricular events, the lack of personnel made it a challenge. Again, this is for High School students only. North Elementary, South Terrace, and North Posey Junior High will operate on a normal schedule. Buses will also operate on a normal schedule on Friday.

 

The North Posey Vikings Regional Football game on Friday at Triton Central will kickoff at 7:00 PM. Both teams are 11-1 on the year. If you are unable to make the trip, we will have you covered here on Posey County Radio Friday evening. Posey County Council on Aging has announced that for the next two weeks, they will be taking donations to send care packages to deployed soldiers. If you wish to bring something, you can drop it off at their office. They shared some ideas of things you can donate. They include necessities such as sunblock, socks, underwear, flip-flops, lip balm, and powder. Also mentioned were snacks, drink mixes, games, and even photos and notes that show your support and affection.

 

Sports from last night, in Men’s College Basketball the Indiana Hoosiers beat Florida Gulf Coast University at home, 69-63. The Hoosiers improve to 2-0 on the year. IU is home against Army on Sunday at 6:00 PM.

Evansville Women’s Basketball lost their season opener at home to Lipscomb, 77-58. Kynidi Mason Striverson had 13 points to pace the Lady Aces. They travel to SIU Edwardsville on Sunday.
