Mt. Vernon Baseball lost a tough one last night on the road at Southridge, 8-7 in 8 innings. The loss drops the Wildcats to 7-12 on the year and 2-9 in the PAC.

North Posey Baseball earned another solid win at home over Boonville, 6-4. The Vikings run their record to 19-2 overall and 9-1 in the PAC.

Mt. Vernon Softball picked up a nice win at home last night over Vincennes, 6-2. The Wildcats improve to 12-10 on the season.

North Posey Softball fell short in a pitchers’ duel at home against Boonville, 1-0. The Vikings are now 13-6 on the year and 6-2 in the PAC.

 

Coming up this evening in local high school sports…North Posey Baseball plays at Forest Park at 5:00 PM. This is a game that was postponed earlier in the week. North Posey Softball hits the road tonight to battle Gibson Southern at 5:00 PM.

 

The University of Southern Indiana has launched a new online master’s program. The all online Master’s of Social Work degree will begin this fall. Officials say the new offering is based on the current in-person Master of Social Work degree but will instead offer the same classes in an online environment that fits any schedule. This degree is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

 

Mt. Vernon Junior High School has announced that their parent orientation for future 6th graders will be held on Thursday, May 16th from 6:00-6:45 PM. The evening will start at 6:00 PM in the MVJS Main Gym with a welcome and presentation. You will enter through door 21 on the north side of the building. Teachers will review standard procedure and important information regarding the start of school in August. The night is reserved just for parents. Students will have their day at the Junior High during their 5th grade retreat days. If you are unable to attend on May 16th, an information packet can be picked up from the Junior High School. If you have any questions, they say to call the Junior High office at 812-833-2077.

 

North Posey has announced that they will be having their athletic physicals day on Saturday, May 18th from 8:00-11:00 AM. It will be at North Posey High School and is available for incoming 7th-12th grade North Posey students. All athletes planning to play athletics will be required to have an athletic physical on file in the Athletic Office per the IHSAA.

 

In local college baseball today…the Evansville Purple Aces hit the road for a 3-game series at Indiana State. The series starts today at 3:30 PM. They will also play tomorrow at 1:00 PM and on Sunday at 12:00 PM. UE sits three games behind the Sycamores for first place in the MVC standings. The Aces are 28-20 overall and 14-7 in the conference. They are currently tied for 2nd place with UIC.

 

USI Baseball starts a 3-game OVC series at Arkansas Little Rock tonight at 6:00 PM. The series continues tomorrow at 4:00 PM and then concludes on Sunday at 1:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles are 22-27 on the year and 11-10 in the OVC. They have won 5-straight conference games.

 

From Major League Baseball on Thursday…the St. Louis Cardinals dreadful play continues as they dropped their 5th-straight game to begin a 4-game set in Milwaukee against the Brewers, 7-1. St. Louis falls to 15-22 on the season. Game 2 of the series in Milwaukee is tonight at 7:10 PM.

The Chicago Cubs had Thursday off and begin a weekend series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates tonight at 5:40 PM. Chicago is 22-16.

The Cincinnati Reds have now lost 8-straigh games after they got swept at home by the Arizona D-Backs, 5-4. It’s now back-to-back one-run losses for Cincy. The Reds are now a season-low five games under .500 at 16-21. They are in San Francisco tonight to start a 3-game set with the Giants at 9:15 PM.

 

From the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers play game three of their second-round series tonight at home against the New York Knicks. The Pacers trail the best-of-seven series, 2-0. Tonight’s game tip in Indy at 6:00 PM Central Time.
