It’s national nurses’ week, which is a time to appreciate all the work they do. At Ascension St. Vincent, a new nurse apprenticeship program has started. It’s in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College. Students in their first semester of nursing school can apply to work as a patient care tech at the hospital during their two years in nursing school. By the end of it, students are spending up to 20 hours a week giving hands-on care, while also getting paid. Organizers say this, in turn, helps build the healthcare pipeline and also keep nurses in the Evansville region.
