Over the weekend, North Posey Baseball played a pair of games against Forest Park and Memorial. On Friday night, the Vikings clinched a share of the PAC title with a 2-0 win at Forest Park. They will play for an outright title on Friday against Gibson Sothern. Then on Saturday, North Posey Baseball lost 4-3 against Memorial. The Vikings are 20-3 overall and 10-1 in the PAC.

 

Mt. Vernon High School is having their free athletic physical night this Wednesday in the Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Foyer. Pre-screening for off-season athletes that will be incoming 9th through 12 grade will start at 5:00 PM. In-season athletes should arrive starting at 5:30 PM. There will be no admittance after 6:30 PM. Student athletes should bring their entire physical form with them to the free physical night. Incoming 9th grade athletes will also be doing concussion screening. Athletes should bring their Chromebook with them to use for the screening.

 

North Posey has announced that they will be having their athletic physicals day this coming Saturday from 8:00-11:00 AM. It will be at North Posey High School and is available for incoming 7th-12th grade North Posey students. All athletes planning to play athletics will be required to have an athletic physical on file in the Athletic Office per the IHSAA.

 

Holiday World opened this past weekend. Officials say they will be closed during the next two weeks for private groups and school outings. Then next Saturday, May 18, Splashin’ Safari will be opening for the season as well. According to a release, the park is introducing a new coffee and boba shop called the Perky Turkey in the Thanksgiving section and adding coffee and boba to more locations. Additionally, Sam’s Smokehouse in Splashin’ Safari has new brisket, pork ribs, and pulled pork and chicken. The 2024 season will also bring the return of Holidays in the Sky with 500 drones, running from June 22nd through August 2nd.

 

In local college baseball from over the weekend…the Evansville Purple Aces lost 2-of-3 at #20 Indiana State. UE lost on Friday, 5-4…Saturday, 6-4…and then yesterday pulled out a 7-6 win. The Aces are 29-22 on the year and 15-9 in the MVC. Their final 3-game conference series is this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at home against UIC.

 

USI Baseball got swept over the weekend on the road at Arkansas Little Rock. USI lost 11-9 on Friday…7-6 on Saturday…and 5-4 yesterday. The Screaming Eagles are now 22-30 overall and 11-13 in the OVC. Their final conference series is at home this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday against Western Illinois. USI will need to win just one game to punch their ticket to the OVC tournament.

 

From Major League Baseball on Sunday…the St. Louis Cardinals ended a 7-game losing streak with a 4-3 win at the Milwaukee Brewers. The Redbirds improve to 16-24 and will start a 3-game series out west tonight against the Los Angeles Angels at 8:38 PM.

The Chicago Cubs edged the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road, 5-4 in 10 innings. Chicago was able to take 2-of-3 in the series to run their record to 24-17 on the year. The Cubs will be in Atlanta this evening to start a series with the Braves at 6:20 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds dropped their finale in San Franciso to the Giants, 6-5 in 10 innings. Cincy lost 2-of-3 in the weekend series, and they tumble to 17-23 overall. The Reds begin a new series in Arizona tonight against the D-Backs at 8:40 PM.  

 

From the NBA Playoffs…the Indiana Pacers evened up their second-round series against the New York Knicks with a 121-89 thumping in Indy. Tyrese Haliburton led the Pacers with 20 points. The best-of-seven series is now tied, 2-2. Game 5 shift back to New York tomorrow evening.
