A local winter coat drive is marking a major milestone as it works to help children in need stay warm this season. The 40th annual Coat-A-Kid campaign officially kicked off yesterday at Don’s Cleaners in Evansville. Organizers are asking the public to donate new or gently used coats for area children through December 31st. All donated coats are cleaned and distributed to families in need at no cost. Donations can be dropped off at any Don’s Cleaners location in Evansville.

The holiday season is getting closer, and the Vanderburgh Humane Society is bringing back a popular holiday photo event in Evansville. The annual “Pet Pictures with Santa” event returns next month at Washington Square Mall. Organizers say pets of all species and sizes are welcome. Photo sessions cost 30 dollars and include two poses, with digital images emailed to pet owners. Children and adults can also join in for a picture with Santa. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Vanderburgh Humane Society. Photos will be available Saturday, November 7th, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, November 8th, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Renovations are officially underway at historic Bosse Field in Evansville, as crews begin installing artificial turf. Work started on Monday, following a one-week delay to accommodate the Evansville Otters’ run in the championship series. Officials expect the project to be completed in January. The new turf is expected to provide a more versatile playing surface, reduce maintenance costs, and eliminate the challenges of managing the infield tarp during bad weather. For fans who want to hold on to a piece of the ballpark’s history, jars of dirt from the original field are available for purchase.
