The Posey County Area Plan Commission has unanimously approved an ordinance regulating data centers in the county. The action came Thursday night, following hours of discussion. The nearly 40-page ordinance sets requirements for data centers, including limits on height, noise, setbacks and size. It also requires developers to address utility use, construction and potential environmental impacts. Dozens of residents attended the hearing, many wearing red shirts in opposition to the proposed development. The proposal is believed to be connected to Amazon, although officials say the company is still in the early stages of considering a data center in Posey County. The commission’s vote is only a recommendation. The ordinance now goes to the Posey County Commissioners for consideration.
Posey County residents will soon have several opportunities to learn more about a proposal to create a countywide fire department. Black Township Fire and Rescue and the Posey County Fire Steering Committee say the proposal is aimed at addressing challenges facing the county’s all-volunteer fire service, including staffing shortages, rising costs and increasing demands for training and administration. The proposed countywide department would coordinate staffing, training and resources under a unified leadership structure, while keeping volunteer firefighters an important part of the system. Three public meetings are scheduled. The first is this Saturday at 1:00 PM at St. Peter’s on the Hill, followed by a meeting at 3:00 PM at the Hovey House. A third meeting will be held this Sunday at 1:00 PM at Ribeye Gym. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions and share their thoughts on the future of fire and emergency services in Posey County.
