The University of Southern Indiana is honoring victims of domestic violence and supporting survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Students and community members gathered at Reflection Lake yesterday for the university’s annual Flowers on the Lake ceremony, scattering flower petals across the water in memory of lives lost to domestic violence. The ceremony included students sharing stories of those who died, followed by 100 seconds of silence—one second for every person killed by domestic violence in Indiana. Organizers say the event also serves as a reminder that students are not alone, and that support and resources are available on campus.

Renovations are officially underway at historic Bosse Field in Evansville, as crews begin installing artificial turf. Work started on Monday, following a one-week delay to accommodate the Evansville Otters’ run in the championship series. Officials expect the project to be completed in January. The new turf is expected to provide a more versatile playing surface, reduce maintenance costs, and eliminate the challenges of managing the infield tarp during bad weather. For fans who want to hold on to a piece of the ballpark’s history, jars of dirt from the original field are available for purchase.

CenterPoint Energy is offering southwestern Indiana customers a chance to prepare for the upcoming winter heating season. The utility company is hosting a Community Connect event to help customers learn about bill assistance programs, payment options and energy-saving resources. Customers will also have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with CenterPoint representatives, ask questions and learn about financial assistance programs that could help manage winter energy costs. The event is scheduled for October 28th from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at CenterPoint Energy Plaza, located at 211 Northwest Riverside Drive in Evansville. Officials say the community open house is designed to connect customers with resources that may help make heating costs more manageable this winter.
