Indiana State Police initiated a criminal investigation on March 16 after receiving an allegation that a female under the age of 14 had been sexually molested by Jorge Cesar Gonzalez, 53, of Mt. Vernon. The alleged incident happened back in July of 2022 at an undisclosed location in Orange County. After reviewing the criminal investigation, the Orange County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Gonzalez. He was charged with Child Molesting, a Level 4 Felony. At approximately 4:45 PM yesterday, Gonzalez was arrested without incident at his place of employment in Mt. Vernon. He was taken to the Posey County Jail where he is currently being held until he is transferred to the Orange County Jail.

A traffic stop led to the arrest and conviction of an Owensville man. 62-year-old Timothy Keepes was pulled over back in January for speeding and crossing the center line. Further investigation by the New Harmony Town Marshal revealed that Keepes was driving on a suspended license. Syringes, approximately 11 grams of meth and empty pill capsules were found. He admitted that he fills the capsules with meth and sells them. On Wednesday, a Posey County Judge sentence him to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

If the Evansville City Council passes an ordinance that would potentially kill the pickleball project planned for Wesselman Park, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says he would veto it. The Parks Department plans to add pickleball courts next to the existing tennis complex. On Monday night, the council tabled a vote on the ordinance that would require City Council approval for any project like that. They want to hear a presentation from the Parks Board before making a decision next month.

Evansville Central Dispatch confirms that authorities responded to a shots fired run at Cedar Trace Apartments last night. Dispatch says a large police presence was on scene in the area near the 2200 block of North Seventh Avenue. Officials with the Evansville Police Department said that officers cleared the entire apartment complex, but found no signs of property damage or people hurt. Police say they were given a vague description of two men running into the building. However, no suspects were found inside, officials say. EPD says it’s possible a shooter could have run inside and then left before police arrived. Officials say it took police a couple of hours to search the building and evacuate residents.
