High School Football Semi-State is this Friday, and the Mater Dei Wildcats will play for a trip to the State Finals against Linton-Stockton at 6:30 PM. All season long we have carried Mt. Vernon and North Posey Football on our respective stations, 106.7 FM WMVI and 98.9 FM WPIW. With both of those teams eliminated from postseason play and many Posey County people having some ties to Mater Dei though family and friends, we carried the Mater Dei Regional victory last Friday at Triton Central on 106.7 FM WMVI. We will have Mater Dei Football on the radio once again this Friday night, as they play host to 13-0 Linton-Stockton at The Bowl in Evansville. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM. North Posey High School is having a Christmas Toy Drive as part of their 1st Annual “Spirit of Christmas” Event. They are looking for donations of new (unwrapped) toys. All toys will be donated to Toys for Tots on behalf of the North Posey Community. They are accepting donations through Friday, December 16th. Drop-off location is North Posey High School. A road closure is being planned for parts of downtown Evansville. Officials say Court Street will be closed from NW 3rd Street to Market Street. Vine Street will also be closed from NW 3rd Street to NW 2nd Street. They say this is all part of the Toyota Trinity Stormwater Park Project. The closures will continue until around mid-January 2023.

 

As the holidays approach, Evansville Police are reminding residents to buckle up. This Monday, November 14th, is known as "National Seat Belt Day." Evansville Police say no matter where you sit in a vehicle, wearing a seat belt is proven to save lives. Authorities say more than 46,000 people are killed in car accidents in the U.S. every year and an estimated 4.4 million people sustain injuries that require medical attention. EPD says direct medical costs add up to more than $300 million. Authorities say using seat belts helps save lives and minimize the risk of serious injuries. "National Seat Belt Day" was created to raise awareness and encourage people to practice car safety. 

 

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is reminding homeowners to get your chimneys cleaned and inspected by professionals, heading into the Winter season. According to statistics, there are over 25,000 chimney fires per year in the United States. Should you ever encounter a chimney fire, it is recommended that you evacuate the house, call the fire department, close the doors and dampers to the fireplace if possible, spray your roof with water and wait for the fire department to get on site.

- North Posey Girls Basketball travels to Carmi. The Varsity game tips at 7:30 PM. North Posey lost the opener of the regular season on Friday at Gibson Southern.
