We have an update for the Mt. Vernon Street Department Holiday Trash Schedule. All city offices will be closed this Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving. If your normal trash collection day is Thursday, your trash will be picked up this Wednesday. If your normal trash collection day is Friday, your trash will be picked up next Monday. Any questions or concerns, you are to call the office at 812-838-2352.

 

The 88th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus is just two days away at Ford Center in downtown Evansville. Posey County Shriners are making available free Circus Exchange Tickets for all Posey County Elementary School students. These are student only tickets. Tonight, is your final chance to pick up those tickets in Mt. Vernon at the Black Township Fire Department from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Adult discount admission tickets will also be available for purchase. Evansville’s Hadi Shrine Circus gets underway on Thursday at 5:00 PM and will have shows throughout Thanksgiving weekend at Ford Center in Evansville.

 

 

The Evansville Rescue Mission's 101st "Gobbler Gathering" event is kicking off in Evansville today. The annual Thanksgiving food basket giveaway for Tri-State families is happening at the Old National Events Plaza from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, with distribution services being held at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 pm, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM. The rescue mission says it's expecting thousands of families to attend the services to hear a message of hope and receive a food basket filled with items. Evansville Rescue Mission says it expects to give away more than 140,000 pounds of food. In addition to all that food, community volunteers will also be handing out coats and accessories to any child who may need warm clothing during the Gobbler Gathering event. You can head to this year's Gobbler Gathering at the Old National Events Plaza at 715 Locust Street in Evansville.

 

Local and State leaders gathered at the WestGate Academy at Crane for a very big announcement on Monday.   A new microelectronics campus, WestGate One will be developed at WestGate in Odon, Indiana on 10 acres as a public-private development that will create high paying jobs for the region and put Indiana on the leading edge of Semiconductor research.  The project will be on the fast track to get finished as soon as possible.  Governor Eric Holcomb was on hand for the special announcement and said it was a big early present for the holidays.

 

One local High School Football team will play for a state championship this weekend up in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium and that is the Mater Dei Wildcats. They will play in the Class 2A Championship game on Friday at 10:00 AM against Andrean. Mater Dei is 11-3 on the year and Andrean is 10-3. We will have coverage of the game again this Friday on 106.7 FM WMVI.

 

Local Sports Tonight:

- Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball begins their season at Vincennes Rivet at 6:30 PM. It will be a Varsity only game.

- Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball is home against South Spencer. The Varsity game tips around 7:30 PM. 

- Mt. Vernon Wrestling is on the road at Henderson County at 6:00 PM.

- North Posey Girls Basketball plays host to Central. The Varsity game gets underway around 7:00 PM. 

- USI Men's Basketball travels to St. Bonaventure at 6:00 PM.

- UE Volleyball continues play in the MVC Tournament at Meeks Family Fieldhouse on campus at 3:00 PM against the UNI Panthers. The winner of the match heads to the MVC Tournament Championship match tomorrow.
