Coming up tonight in local high school sports…North Posey Softball plays host to Tecumseh at 5:00 PM. The Vikings are the defending Class 2A State Champs and the Braves are defending Class 1A State Champs. Mt. Vernon Softball welcomes Mater Dei this evening for a 5:00 PM first pitch.

North Posey Baseball is home against Heritage Hills at 5:00 PM. Tonight’s game is a rescheduled game from Tuesday of this week.

 

Tonight, students at Mt. Vernon Junior High will be performing Disney’s classic, Marry Poppins. There will be two performances. The first one is this evening at 7:00 PM and the second performance is tomorrow at 1:00 PM. Tickets are 7 dollars.

 

Governor Eric J. Holcomb and officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) say $207 million has been awarded through the Community Crossings matching grant program. Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects in January. Mount Vernon is being awarded $687,259.50 and Evansville is being awarded $952,628.09. The Community Crossings initiative has provided nearly $1.7 billion in state matching funds for local road improvement projects since 2016. The next call for projects will open in July.

 

Posey County Emergency Management posted a message on Facebook for community members who are unable to get their yard waste removed from their property and are wondering what to do with it. They say they have been in contact with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and they have advised that open burning the piles of limbs or sticks that you have is allowed. If you do this, please report any open burns that you will be doing to the local Posey County 911 Dispatch. The number for them is 812-838-1320. This burning is for natural yard waste only, no debris from houses or pole barns. Make sure you practice safe burning by burning in open areas, away from buildings, and keep an eye on your fires.

 

Local college sports tonight…Evansville Baseball begins a 3-game conference series at home with Illinois State at 6:00 PM. The Purple Aces have won 6 of their last 8 games and sit at 15-17 on the year and 4-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

 

USI Baseball is on the road this weekend in Cape Girardeau, Missouri taking on Southeast Missouri State in a 3-game OVC series. Tonight’s game begins at 6:00 PM. The Screaming Eagles are trying to snap a 3-game skid as they sit at 14-19 on the season and 4-5 in the OVC.

 

Tonight, in Major Leage Baseball…the St. Louis Cardinals begin a 3-game series out west in Arizona against the D-Backs at 8:40 PM. The Redbirds are 6-7 on the year. Steven Matz makes the start for the Cardinals. You can hear that game on 106.7 FM WMVI.

 

The Chicago Cubs are also out west in Seattle facing the Mariners at 8:40 PM. The Cubs sit at 7-5 on the season.

 

The Cincinnati Reds hit the road to Chicago to face off against the White Sox at 6:40 PM. The Reds are even 500 on the year at 6-6. The White Sox have struggled as they are just 2-10.

 

From the NBA…the Indiana Pacers play in Cleveland this evening against the Cavaliers at 6:30 PM. The Pacers have won 3-straight games and are 46-34 on the season with just 2 games left. Indiana is currently in 6th place in the Eastern Conference and will finish the regular season at home on Sunday against the Atlanta Hawks.
