Last night in local high school boys basketball, the Mt. Vernon Wildcats won their final game of the regular season at home against South Spencer, 61-58. Jackson Clowers had 15 points to pace the Wildcats, Nicot Burnett added 14 points, and Meyer Robb chipped in with 12 points. Mt. Vernon finishes the regular season with a 13-11 overall record and a 6-6 mark in the conference. It is their first winning regular season since the 2012-2013 season. They will play on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A Sectional 32 against Gibson Southern at 7:30 PM.

 

North Posey Boys Basketball topped Gibson Southern at home, 56-48 in their regular season finale last night. The Vikings finish the regular season with a 17-5 record and 9-3 in the conference. North Posey will face South Spencer in the first round of the Class 2A Sectional 48 on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.

 

In Men’s College Basketball…#3 Purdue pounded Rutgers at home 96-68. Zach Edey poured in a game-high 25 points for the Boilermakers, who improve to 24-3 and 13-3 in the Big 10.

 

From the NBA on Thursday night, the Indiana Pacers played their first game post the All-Star Break and they were able to cruise past the Detroit Pistons at home, 129-115. Tyrese Haliburton had 25 points and 13 assists to pace Indiana. The Pacers improve to 32-25.

 

Coming up tomorrow it will be the second annual Posey County Community CPR training event. Several agencies and businesses have teamed up to provide the $30 training sessions. They include SABIC, Country Mark, The Posey County Health Department, Posey County EMS and the Mount Vernon, Black Township and Wadesville Fire Departments. This event will be taking place at two locations. One being the Country Mark Pavillion at 6855 Lower New Harmony Road and the other the Wadesville Fire Department at 4200 Princeton Street. The Posey County Historical Society is going to be having their first meeting of the year on Saturday as well. It will take place at 10:00 AM at the Alexandrian Public Library and will cover the upcoming solar eclipse. There will be representatives on site from the Poseyville Solarbration as well as the Mount Vernon Eclipse on the Ohio organizations. The public is invited to attend.

 

One final event coming up on Saturday is the POCO County Music Throwdown being brought to you by the Sweetheart of the Fair. This event will be at the Posey County Community Center at the fairgrounds with the doors opening at 6:00PM and the music starting around 6:30. This event is for adults 21 and old. Musical entertainment will be provided by Tailgate Revival and special guest Sam Hahn. Tickets will be $20 at the door or can be purchased for $15 ahead of time at the Half Moon Saloon in Mount Vernon, Zap's Tavern in St Phillips, KB Auto Works in Mount Vernon, First Bank in Mount Vernon and Poseyville and United Fidelity Bank in Mount Vernon.
