North Posey High School says they will be dismissing early from school today at 1:00 PM. Any High School student not leaving at 1:00 PM will have supervision in the auditorium and ride the buses at 3:00 PM. In a release, the school says they are very excited for the recent success of the junior high and high school Spell Bowl Teams advancing to state, as well as the Football team playing in the Regional. The release says that they don’t normally dismiss school for after school events, but the lack of personnel made it a challenge. Again, this is for High School students only. North Elementary, South Terrace, and North Posey Junior High will operate on a normal schedule. Buses will also operate on a normal schedule today.

The Metropolitan School District of Mount Vernon announced a significant increase in the starting salary for educators of their district. According to a press release, new educators joining their district will commence at a starting salary of $50,000, adding $10,000 above the state requirement. MSD of Mount Vernon officials say they firmly believe in compensating their educators at the level that truly reflects their expertise, dedication, and the influence they have on the community’s youth. With this raise, MSD of Mount Vernon says it not only sets a benchmark for schools in the region, but also sends a clear message about the premium they place in quality education.
